Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I lived at this apartment complex while I was going to Full Sail for about two years. Here's what I experienced:
Pros:
- The staff was always nice and, for the most part, helpful.
- There was always a parking spot available although I lived in an apartment that had many parking spots nearby so maybe I was lucky.
- There's a fireplace. But you'll never use it. Because it's... you know... Florida.
- Seriously, why is there a fireplace'
- The complex was generally pretty quiet.
- There's a Winn-Dixie right next door, a Target across the street, and several other businesses within very short distance.
- There's two pools, a jacuzzi, a tennis court, and I'm pretty sure there's a laundry facility (but don't quote me on that).
Cons:
- There were a few times when I requested maintenance but it never got done.
- The ceiling leaked in one of the bedrooms twice in the same spot.
- The apartment had many cracks in the walls and what looked like water damage.
- Bugs were everywhere; mostly cockroaches and silverfish. Maybe it was just because the complex is in Florida but I thought it could have been better.
- The ceiling would creak whenever anyone in the apartment above us walked around.
- The appliances included in my apartment (washer/dryer, refrigerator, and dishwasher) were very old.
Also, this has nothing to do with the apartment complex and, therefore, was not considered in my rating of Hunter's Ridge but the area around the complex seemed to be crime ridden. Although, I have no data to back up this claim, in general, this seemed to be the case due to the things I heard from friends. For example I had a friend who was robbed going to class one day. Another friend would tell me about people getting shot in his apartment complex down the street. Another guy I knew had his bike stolen at Full Sail (also down the street) and a friend of my roommates was robbed in the parking lot of a local Target. Obviously, not a knock on Hunter's Ridge, they can't control the crime after all, but you should know about it nonetheless.
One more thing, I recommend you check out Whisper Lake Apartments. A friend of mine (the same one who got robbed on his way to class actually) had an apartment there and out of all the apartments I had been in while in Winter Park I thought his was the nicest.
