I lived at Andover for nine months. We had to get out and break the lease because the place was so terrible.
First of all, when we were looking at the place before we signed the lease, the man giving us the tour told us we would be getting a unit with a washer and dryer or a washer and dryer hook up. After moving in, we found out that none of the units had washers and dryers.
The first day at the apartment I noticed a strange smell. It was a very weird overall odor that just always seemed to linger. I had candles, I had plug ins and the smell never went away. When I went to take a shower on the first morning I turned on the water and it had the most RANCID SMELL, almost like sewage. We called the front office about it and they said it was a normal thing and to just run the hot water until the it went away. The stench was always kind of there from then on but not as strong. Again, just a weird underlying ODOR and I could smell it on my skin when I got out of the shower.
Upon moving in initially, there were some stains on the carpet, all of the closet doors were broken, and a burner was missing from the stove. Maintenance was unresponsive and rude, often taking weeks to come address any kind of problem.
THE A/C BARELY WORKED AND IT RAN UP OUR ENERGY BILL. No matter what temperature it was set at it was always at least 80 degrees in the apartment. Again, MAINTENANCE WOULDN'T OR COULDN'T FIX IT.
THE WALLS ARE EXTREMELY THIN. Anything our neighbor was watching on t.v. we could hear. We could hear when they took a shower or flushed the toilet. We could even hear occasional laughs and loud voices if they ever had anyone over.
The neighborhood is iffy, we often had cop cars lining the parking lot to address domestic disturbances or drug deals.
NO MATTER HOW CLEAN WE KEPT THE KITCHEN WE ALWAYS HAD LITTLE ROACHES EVERYWHERE.
The "convenient" storage area they provided for us in the indoor stairwell had holes in the ceiling which allowed BATS to inhabit our stairs. One morning we even had a BAT IN OUR KITCHEN. We called animal control who informed the apartment of the issue with bats, and we never received an apology or any sort of follow up on the issue.
The staff was rude, accusatory and when we broke our lease they even tried to blame the already existing broken appliances and doors on us (although we had informed them of the problems when we first moved in.)
Overview: THE PLACE IS DIRTY, THE WATER SMELLS WEIRD, THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS SHADY, WE HAD BATS, AND THE STAFF WAS VERY RUDE AND UNHELPFUL.
