You may want to make sure you have an actual apartment when you sign a lease with this complex. In July I signed a lease for a 1 bedroom apartment that was in the process of being renovated. I was told that the apartment would be ready a month from then on August 22nd. I kept in constant communication with my apartment representative right up to the week I was moving in. Everything was set for me to move in. So on my move in day I picked up my rental truck, got a couple people to help me, cleaned out storage and headed to the apartment to get my keys and pay my rent for the remainder of the month. I sat around for a while waiting for a member of the staff to get my stuff together and take me to the apartment. About 45 minutes goes by and I am informed that MY APARTMENT IS NOT READY!!! I couldnt get a good explaination of why I was not informed of this because my apartment rep was not there and neither was the manager. Needless to say I was furious! Here I am with a moving truck full of my stuff and people helping me, with no place to move into. To put me at ease and diffuse the situation, I was offered a larger 2 bedroom apartment at the same price point. I felt that this was a fair offer and agreed to take it. I started to sign a new lease for the new apartment and shortly after that the staff member tells me they cannot give me the 2 bedroom and retract the offer. At this point, I am fuming. Why offer it before you are 100% sure you can do that' I then ask what options I have that. I am told that they will put me into a small 1 bedroom until my unit is ready and then they will transfer me. As you can imagine, this is no relief to me as I will have to pay rent for an apartment I dont want, can't settle into and will then have to move again when my unit is ready. I am also offered to stay in a one bedroom but this does me no good because it is to small. I decide to try to negotiate a solution that will make me happy and work for them. I ask about a a month free, even prorated, they say they absolutely cannot do that. I ask about getting the same promotion I received when I signed the lease which was 2 months free and have it applied to the 2 bedroom. Once again, that offer is shot down. It is pretty evident that they in no way want to help me for the inconvienance and cost they have caused me.
If this is how they treat residence of the community then I want no part of it. They are not willing to negotiate anything and own up to the mistake they made. I told them to void the lease and refund all monies I have paid inclusing the costs i incurred to move. I am left without a home, crashing on someones couch and living out of boxes.
