Don't usually review an apartment experience, but read the review left on 09/08 and had to comment. Like I said, never reviewed an apartment complex(better things to do with time). I have always felt that unjust individuals & situiations get what they deserve in life through divine right, but I found this review while looking for a new place to live, thought it was just ridiculous and had to comment. I am not a proposed "plant"(complexes will do whatever to hide dirt)as the mgmt has probably added faux possitive reviews on this site to combat; read on if you want an honest accurrate portrayal of daily life at Sun Key Apartments. It is the perfect complex for someone who does not want to spend any of their time in the over-priced residence as it falls apart around them(despite constant weak and noisy rennovation attempts over the past two years that aren't worth it).
From here on out I have created a list of things you may achieve by living at Sun Key, all taken from what has occurred in the last 18 months of living here, while moving from out of state to go to school a block from said complex. Here goes:
1.) Live at Sun Key where the "courtesy officer" is as effective as praying.
2.) Live at Sun Key where you hear renters', drag their late night drunken brawl/party outside to the parking lot(both have and happen on numerous occasions)for more square feet i guess.
3.) Live at Sun Key where the fire alarm pierces your ears for 71 minutes at 4:40am in the morning as you make calls to the on call 24 hour "courtesy" officer and maintenance. They never returned calls to let me know there was even an acknoledgement. The only way to combat a siren is to shut off or vacate(like I said almost 5am). Guess there wasn't a fire. Good to know with an exam later that morning.
4.) Live at Sun Key where the 24 hour maintenance man is a crapshoot.*
5.) Live at Sun Key where you can hear the person below you(urinating, coughing, flushing & talking)all night due to the poor aged structure.
6.) Live at Sun Key where you pass thru a sea of smokers to get to your door.
7.) Live at Sun Key where the employees all live in the complex and act like they are hip hop artists. Gives me a chuckle. Waiting for a low ride golf cart to wheel by.
8.) Live at Sun Key where your door gets painted black'
9.) Live at Sun Key where the lake side view from your apt is blocked by a smoker from an apartment on the other side of the building who is sharing rent at a fraction of what you pay and not entitled or given permission to hang in front of my door.
10.) Live at Sun Key where staff competence goes further south each month I pay rent(always new faces too, hmmm).
11.) Live at Sun Key where they can misplace your rent twice in one year and give attitude about asking for a xeroxed, signed receipt after the fact.
12.) Live at Sun Key where the certified duct cleaners remove items from your home and keep them(happened to a neighbor).
13.) Live in Sun Key where the aforementioned duct cleaners leave plaster particles all over the clothes in your closet, so upon your return home, 8 shirts now have a permanent white dusting all over them(ruined).
14.) Live in SunKey where the picnic area becomes a 24/7 bar/smoke area.
15.) Live at Sun Key where fountain that helps drown out a majority of this noise by masking it with ambience hasn't worked on the lake that I pay a lake view rate, for 8 months.
16.) Live at Sun Key: Lawns mowed and power blowed at 8:00am, despite your work schedule(9:00am, 11:00am, 3:00pm), you'll hear and dodge them twice weekly(apt maintenance does a sweep too). Also don't park to close to the grass or your automobile will be covered in shavings.
17.) Live at Sun Key where mysterious contractors live/come and go in the apartments they rennovate for a brief period of time.
18.) Live at Sun Key where a hotel concerned with a one night rate cares more for their occupants.
19.) Live at Sun Key where a member of management(female), while stopped in front of my parking space to let golfcart w/maganger scoot by, waive and get on with their task, but instead of waiving she yells, "what are you doing'" whilst putting her arms in the air. Parking, human, sorry. Next time i will be sure to put on a turn signal while parking in my complex despite having no cars around me.
20.) Live at Sun Key where the complex will rent a 1/1 with no bedroom door, due to the design, to 3 loud 24/7 single collegiate males, right beneath you.
21.) Live at Sun Key where you can hear your lovely neighbors smoke/cell phone session every morning/day/night outside your door.
22.) Live at Sun Key where if you are a smoker, none of their breezeway rules apply to you(the hall is full of makeshift smoke hutch's; the equivalent of a door matte, which by the way, if you get one for your place upon move in, might last a few months, lasted me a couple.
Like I said, never reviewed an apartment complex(better things to do). I have always felt that situations and individuals in life get what they deserve thru divine right, but I found this review while looking for a new place to live, thought it was just ridiculous and had to comment. They say renters don't have a lot of rights in this state. Well Sun Key is living up to what they feel they should.' I am convinced they might have a goal, just not too sure what that might be'
Would not recommend anyone rent here, unless desperate, in a pinch and for a short term. Make sure you have alarms on vehicles.

Well then where DO you recommend? It's kind of hard to relocate from out of state and find suitable living when everyone gives bad reviews.

this is absolutely ridiculous. you create this whole, long, elaborate review about things about things that don't even matter. " your door gets painted black." .... come on, really? and half of the complaints are about smoking. Sun Key can't outlaw smoking. its legal and while, yes, it is disgusting... take it up with your neighbor, not sun key.
And there were brief issues with the fire alarm, but you call THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, not maintenance.
Sun Key is less than a mile from full sail and its going to have lots of kids that live here. Some of them do throw parties. Have you ever tried knocking on the door and asking them to keep it down? Works for me. I've only had to a few times, its not a hugely common occurence.
From living in many other apartments in orlando/winter park, sun key is by far the best that i have stayed in. The rent is not as exspensive as it seems, because there are always move in specials with 2/3 months free. Not to mention the $99 deposit. Some places charge an arm and a leg just to reserve the place. The crime is petty (mostly from people being stupid and leaving doors unlocked or advertising they have exspensive stuff like leaving huge tv boxes outside there door.) Another place we were about to move into once, there was an execution and the guy was stuffed into his truck. The place we used to live, there were murders and serious break-ins. These were "nice" places too that weren't cheap.
The maintenance is awesome. They always come the day we report something or the very next day. I have never seen a crew that always stays so busy throughout the whole day taking care of the complex.
Overall... i could go on all day about how great this place is and reneging everything this person has said, but i'm saving it for my review when we move. (we have renewed our lease here). Neither of us are college students, we have pets and work for a living and are not part of the rowdy scene. The only thing left for me to say is, this is the first place i've stayed that actually feels like a home to me.
