My roommate and I filled out an application at the AMLI at Northwinds. Everything went well, but I had some concerns that the apartment would not be big enough. I asked Brandon, the man that was helping us, if we would be able to get our deposit back within 72 hours if we changed our minds. He said, "Normally, we only give them back before 24 hours, but since you had to wait so long to be helped to today I'll go ahead and give you 72 hours".

The next day I came back and asked to look at the apartment again. He let me do so, and I took measurements. When I was done I told him I did not think it would be big enough, but that I would talk to my roommate one last time and then let him know.

On the third day at 3:00 PM I went back to get my check back. I had until 6:00 PM supposedly to get it back. He looked for my check and then said that it had been posted already. I then asked if he was going to pay back the deposit. He said they normally don't give them back after 24 hours. I then reminded him of his promise, and he said he was sorry and that there was nothing he could do.

I called the bank and had a stop payment put on the check which cost me $25. Two weeks later I received a letter from AMLI at Northwinds letting me know that if I did not give them a money order for the deposit amount and $35 returned check fee they would send my account to a collection agency.

I would be interested in contacting/speaking with this former tenant. I recently moved out of another AMLI property in Alpharetta, and the management wants me to pay a fee for "guaranteed odor control for pet urine."

I don't even own a pet.

I am trying to find out how many other people have been charged this fee or other suspicious, unauthorized or unwarranted fees. Please contact me at MikeMcCormickEsq@aol.com.
