Alara State Bridge should be condemed! Below are just a few of the problems that my Wife and I have encountered.

1. Mildew! (All the apartments smell like DEATH!)
2. Insects! (Ants, Spiders, Scorpions, and Silverfish, just to name a few)
3. Horrible office staff! (Rude, Heck even they don't like it here)
4. Dead Animals! (Rats, Birds, Chipmunks, and rabbits [All killed by wild cats who roam the grounds freely]
5. Un-watched Children! ( Its like Never-Never Land here, btw watch your cars!)

Those are just my top five! The list is much, much longer! I would rather be homeless than renew my lease here!

I am so sorry. It seems like you have had the exact same experience that I had except I could not make it past three weeks living in such squaller! After a million calls to request that the issues I kept uncovering be fixed in only 3 short weeks I couldn't take it anymore - the last straw was the MOLD we found in my daughters bedroom, right above the head of her bed in the window frame. In fact the mold had proliferated throughout the entire apartment and was thriving in the moist environment that was caused by the poor attempt at sealing the window frames. It had even begun to grow in the bathrooms - especially the bath tub/shower areas including the ceilings!! I also had a huge problem with bugs as you mention although thankfully I did not encounter any scorpions but I'm sure they were close by since there was a 4" x 8" hole in the kitchen base board area (the vertical part between the horizontal floor and the bottom of the lower cabinets)that led directly to the ground. When I shined my flashlight into the hole I could see the dirt "floor" and I could hear a scurrying sound each time the light shown in the hole. I tracked down the parent company in CA and told them about what my issues, including forwarding pictures. I should also include that the manager at that time "Chuck" posed the question "what can we do to make this right?" (breaking the lease was not an option as far as they were concerned) so I said I would like to move into another apartment in the complex. That request fell on deaf ears (probably because they knew the poor condition of the unit I was in and were thinking they would not be able to find another "sucker" like me (very soon) who would rent an apartment without first looking at the actual unit instead of just viewing the model (and I've made this very same mistake once before, a very long time ago, but the result was the same). Please insist on viewing the actual unit you will be leasing. If they tell you it's not possible take that as a warning and move on to another apartment community!

Just want to address your criticisms: I lived there for 1.5 yrs. I had similar problems; however, we (another neighbor and myself) tried to do something about it. She found a house andmoved. I continued to try to remove the wild cats -- which I'm shocked are still living -- and we removed several into rescue or homes. Perhaps you could post a message at work on a community board to see if someone would be interested in adopting abandoned housecats. People who lived there abandoned them. they didn't deserve the cruelty. The complex is around 10 yrs old: yes, it's in poor condition compared to Northpoint. It was more Archstone's stepchild out in the county. The odors may be also from the restaurants and cleaners in the rear (Jones Bridge): it was coming into my apt and they had to call the EPA. The manager always tried to be helpful, but he was limited in problem-solving. The staff, with the exception of one, wasn't rude. Maybe the stresses are getting to them. Alpharetta area apartments are aging; the climate has ruined them. Values have changed. The best home is a home of your own. I doubt that this issue with apartments, regardless of which complex you choose, will end. Alara bought Archstone probably with the intention of cleaning apartments up. They certainly have raised the rents. It may be time for government to intervene at this point, but I still don't know what the solution is except to rebuild those buildings that are over 5-8 years old.
