Think twice before you would want to move here! After seeing a online advertisement for a $99 move-in special my fiance and I decided to do a online lease. Upon finishing the online lease we were given a much higher price for a rental and no move- in special as advertised on properties website.I went to property the next day with advertisement. Application clearly states if not approved all money would be refunded. Well, after visiting the property the next day and being told they were not running a move-in special, but that they would honor online special. I was then told we would have to have $129 not as advertised on the properties website. Well, after getting all the paperwork done, etc. we were told over the phone that we were not approved because of our income. Upon looking at their website it says that both parties that applies income would be combined. We were told that if we wanted to move in we would have to have a co-signer. We didn't want to go that route so when we asked for our money back the property is not wanting to honor what their website states about refund if not approved. I have been given the run around and told there were all these different fees and applications, etc. We just want our money back as promised on their website. Corporate and management hasn't been a help either. I only get a email from property manager and they are not trying to give us our money back. They told my fiance that if we wanted to give them another $90 they would give us our money order back, but we don't see the purpose in that because we were not approved and they were running a move-in special and advertised money would be refunded if not approved. Well, I have contacted the governor's office of consumer affairs because this is false advertisement because you can't keep someone's security deposit if you are not leasing to them. So everyone renter's beware out there!

CALL CLARKE HOWARD and call a lawyer. You may be able to sue for damages and/or at least get your money back. DO NOT LET THEM RIP YOU OFF!!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Absolutely call Clark as I am getting ready to call him myself about an issue with this property and their shady dealings. When I did live there I called the Regional and Corporate Offices and they were no help at all! Very cold and it's almost like some sort of cult. Keep fighting it!!! AMLI WINDWARD IS BAD NEWS!!!!! I'm also seeking legal advice about a financial matter that I am in disagreement with AMLI Windward Management over. You and your fiance should not give them one more penny!!!!!!

I hope you called Clark Howard and that the Office of Consumer Affairs have looked into this. A similiar incident happened to me. I received my renewal increasing my rent to $900 per month. So I went to the Archstone website to check what it was going for, it stated; starting at $805. So I went into the office and discussed this with the manager, and she said she would look into it. A waited a couple of days and when I didn't hear back from her I went back out to the website and saw that there was no pricing or availability!!! She looked into it all right.

I did not see a problem with them doing this. It's a business. They have to pay their staff to do background checks and talk to you etc. If at the end of the day they don't think you can pay the rent, that's on you.

Maybe the charge was for a credit check? There is no free lunch.
