I am not sure how the apartment complex is now, but I lived there in 1998 and I loved my apartment. It was almost brand new... I think one person had lived in the apartment before me for less than a year. I had a mid level apartment with two bedrooms and stackable washer and dryer. Nice big window in the master bedroom that overlooked the woods and a creek. The complex wasn't even at full capacity at this point and the neighbors I had kept to themselves pretty much.

My problem with them was when I moved out. I had a roommate at the time and I left 2 weeks before he did. I cleaned the apartment very throroughly and even shampooed. My ex roommate apparently left 1 chair in a room and 1 bag of mostly newspapers and such in the outside patio closet on accident. The only damage to the apartment was a stain in the carpet about the size of a quarter in a corner near the bathroom and one scuff stain by the front door from a cable worker's boots. For this they not only kept my $250 deposit, but also charged me a cleaning fee for several hundred more. The worst part was that I never found out until I tried to rent again and found out that I had been reported as owing money through SafeRent or whatever.

There is nothing I can do about it either because of the fact that I left two weeks earlier. Lesson: make sure to sign off with the complex before you go so they don't screw you.
