Bring your checkbook to move out!!

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
I lived at Stoneleigh for two years and just recently moved out in August 2009. I had been pretty content with the complex until the leasing agent, Naomi, made moving out a nightmare for me.
After accepting a job offer in Washington, DC, I had to cancel the last 5 months of my lease which is costly to begin with. On top of the cancellation fee, they did not do my move-out inspection until after I handed over my key and left town (despite my request for one earlier), then compiled a list of $400 worth of erroneous charges.
Earlier in my lease I had painted 7 walls in my apartment. Before I painted them, I had sought permission to do this and was informed that I would need to put a coat of primer on each of them whenever I moved out. This is exactly what I did, and yet among the list of move-out charges was a $200 charge for the walls. Only after we mentioned they were violating Georgia law did they remove the charges for the paint.
On top of that, I was charged $187 for two small stains in the carpet (what should have been considered normal wear & tear), and a dirty oven. The oven was so dirty when I first moved into the apartment that heavy smoke came out of it. Because I hadn t known and made note of this promptly during my move-in inspection, the staff told me it was now my responsibility to clean. In the end I was charged for something I left in better condition than the way I received it.
The most ignorant part of the charges was for the personal property I left behind a beautiful large mirror mounted over the fireplace that was THERE when I moved in!! It was one of my favorite things about the apartment, and she had them take it out and throw it away. Had I known she was going to do that I would have taken it with me! The fact that Naomi was unaware of this being a feature in the apartment further shows her inexperience. Once this was brought to her attention, she did retract the charge.
On another note, the security gates are more of a pain than a security feature as they are often broken. The gym equipment is unreliable and the computers in the lab frequently have problems.
That being said, the maintenance crew ALWAYS responded to requests within a day or two and were VERY reliable and friendly.
