It WAS oversold...

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003
I moved here in April 2003. My apartment in and of itself is perfect...but it?s attached to the woman above me who seems to RUN all day - wearing her favorite concrete boots & it?s like she take 26 steps to walk 4 feet...in her concrete boots. When I visited the property, I specifically asked about noise & I was told that there is a concrete slab between each. I moved in here from renting a house so peace & quiet was a priority. NOT. This is like having middle aged room mates...I can hear them splash as they bathe, I can hear the man tinkle, I have hear their phone ringing, their dog barking, and their alarm clocks at 5AM & I am sure they can hear ours (minus the dog). Although I don?t deal with the managment much, they are nice but just "OK". They don?t seem to be very astute about anything. They heavily advertise the availability of the business center. Yes, it IS there and it is well equipped...with equipment that none of the technicalogically challenged staff knows how to operate. My computer was being upgraded but I wasn?t worried b/c I was just certain that I would be able to do internet work at the business center. Well you can - if you have an AOL account...I have a DSL connection & no one who is actually internet savvy would use AOL. Yet, that this the ONLY way to get to the internet from the center & NO ONE knew how to reset the password to get me on as a guest. I tried to explain that they need only call & get or reset the password. Each of the 2 people there said, they didn?t know the info needed to authenticate their ID for the AOL account. Shouldn?t EVERYONE in the office know that'' I have used the fax machine there & found out on 3 occasions that there was no transmission to the recipient - seems the thing was just hooked up with the phone cord and the plug...but not configured at all as it required programming in the sending # & such to work. No copy/ print paper available either. I stopped in a couple of days ago & the computer wouldn?t boot at all. Again, no one had a clue. The one maintenance issue that I had is still not totally remedied after 4 attempts - seems the "repair" guy had no clue how to keep my toilet from leaking ALL over the bathroom floor. And they kept sending the SAME guy even after I asked for a diffrent person!!! After attempt # 4, I decided that having the bowl with barely 3" of water is better than having toilet water gushing across the floor - I gave up. The playground IS only for toddlers - I have a 10 year old. Also, there are not sidewalks in several spots throughout the property..the kids have to walk in the street for about half of the walk from the school bus. The garden tubs are not ceramic/ porcelain - or whatever the economical hard stuff is that bathroom stuff comes in...they are PLASTIC and they don?t have smooth surfaces...makes it hard to clean. The sink is made of the correct material, though. I too, have noticed more "undesirables" - guys with music too loud and such.
Back to the apartment itself, I have no issues with it. Yes, we did have to add our own light fixtures but we will take them when we go so it?s no biggie. I love the elementary school that the property is zoned for, which played a HUGE decision in my choice to live here. White cabinets also weighed heavily. The grounds are nice & since I don?t have a dog, it doesn?t bother me that the back is muddy - plus my apartment faces the opposite direction. I have never gone to the breakfast - I figured that it wouldn?t be pancakes and sausage. My breeze ways are fine...clean & clutter free. I give it a B--; meaning that it passes, boardering on luxury...but not quite. The property WAS very oversold & overall the B minus minus means that I rate as an "uppper alright, upper so-so" place to live. I intend to leave, though. We plan to buy...this concrete boot wearing woman has convinced me that this HAS to be my LAST time living connected to other people b/c you can never assess a noise carring situation until after the lease is signed!! All in all, I do recommend it...some people may not be as sensitive to noise as I am & the state of the business center may not matter to some. There's like a 50/50 chance that you will be at least as pleased as I am...which is about 50%.
