I have been around since 2002, and I have to say that overall I am satisfied and would definitely recommend Abbey West as a place to do your time. I came to Abbey West from the Reserve, previously the east side sister of Abbey West. Having been extremely disappointed by the Reserve, I was admittedly weary of Abbey West, thinking they were one in the same. I will now very strongly say though they look strangely similar on the outside... thankfully that is as far as the likeness goes. At the Reserve I was met with very "firm" pricing and lease-terms... at AW they have been nothing but accommodating... although I will admit the incessant calls about renewing your lease starting in December are something we could all live without. After constant book-keeping errors at the Reserve, being told nearly every other month I had not paid my rent when in fact they had a credit card number and authorization to charge all 12 months rent automatically... the efficiency of the AW office staff is refreshing...not to mention AW is a great deal less expensive...at least it was 3 years ago. As far as the office staff goes like others, I will say...pick who you deal with... much of the office staff are college students themselves... however there is an easy solution to this... KNOW YOUR PROPERTY MANAGER!!! You will be thankful you do. Maintenance, though it has changed faces over the past couple years is generally quick and reliable. Though it is at times noisy... where is it not is Athens' There is a good sense of community here and though there has been a recent rash of motorcycle thefts, I have always felt safe. Yes we are on the west side... further from school and downtown... this has its advantages though... less traffic on game days and less noise and clutter than those close into school and the downtown party scene... remember Downtown is but a short/cheap (if you pack into a van) cab ride away and school is a free bus ride away. Though the roommate matching can be scary and seem like a gamble, the staff does really take care to make viable matches which is more than can be said for that place on the east side. If all else fails, with the separate bed and bathrooms, all you really have to do is co-exist... so have no fear come on over...
