What attracted me to Cascades on the River was the price of a two bedroom condo. I toured the facility, and generally liked the place. It's not the perfect hang out/party pad that other apartments have that are near campus (such as the Exchange), but it caters more towards quiet/serious people (there are a great deal of students in the community as well). It's a great price and only 3 miles from downtown Athens. You don't get luxury amenities (like Gym, Olympic pool or printing stations etc.). The buildings are old (1950s), but have been recently renovated. The neighborhood is quiet, but the ghetto is not far down the road (so be aware of strange people walking down the main road outside the complex). After 2 years here, the only real complaint I have is in regards to the office communication. They REFUSE to call you back or let you know they've received your message. Good luck if something goes wrong (no water/power or cable), it'll take days to get their attention. They started a new online-rent pay website just this year, and a new online service request thing. But still, after I sent about 3 online service requests, they still never responded. One week later I went to the main office and got "Oh yeah, we got your request, we're working on it"---which means another week of waiting. All i ask is that you respond to an e-mail or letter with "hey, i got your message, we're fixing it"...rather than me having to beg for a response. Other than that, pretty quiet place, decent looking housing and very affordable price compared with others. Cons' You don't have a big back deck, the building is old, so creaks can be heard throughout and you have to wait forever for maintenance problems.
