I've lived in University Commons for almost a year now, so I've got to see the before and after new management. I see all these negative reviews, but I have to disagree. It must be that I lucked out on everything. I moved in, made 7 pages of maintenance slips, and they all got fixed promptly. No noise. Friendly neighbors but mind their own business. I feel secure as there is a police patrol several times a day. Management has always been accomodating to anything they can do within their power. I'm a college student. Pest control comes every Thur and come if you put in a work order. I had a very minor case of ants, put out ant food and they were gone the next day, didn't even need the pest control guy. Bed was well worn, I asked for a new one and couple hours later a new bed was at my door. Carpet had been flooded so it's not the greatest, but I don't care too much. I've been in friends apartments in UC and they just trash it, everything will have to be replaced whenever they move out. About 6 months ago someone did try to cut the security cable locking up my bike, but they weren't successful luckily. Haven't seen or heard of any crimes nearby. New workout facility, no longer 24hour b/c of stupid people vandalizing.
All in all, this place is a great deal, expect some bad neighbors here and there. Expect parties. If enjoy quiet, then request for it. Make sure you inspect the place before you move in! Management is making an effort to make this a better place and it shows. Building O is the ----, don't come and mess it up for everyone. If you're not going to respect your neighbors, don't come to building O.
I'm moving to the Woodlands w/ some friends, but College Park Lakeside is a good start if you're new to athens, great location.
