Would not recommend this complex

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. This was the absolute worst living experience I have ever had. First, I am a 21-year-old newlywed broker who just moved to Athens, Ga from Miami, Fl with my wife. We have rented before and know the ropes. However, when I attempted to move into High Ridge they stated I did not have enough credit and that I would have to pay a $650 deposit. Fine, we really like the place and it was absolutely beautiful. Then two weeks later my AC unit completely shut down. It took the maintenance staff almost three weeks to repair the unit. Thats three weeks in the dead hot summer with only 2 fans in the entire house. The amenities' Don't even ask. The work out room consisted of some 80's type jogging machine and a bicycle that doesn't even work. The laundry room is not even a coin laundry room. You have to buy a card from management and put money on the card. Sounds ok, the only problem is you can only fill the card up Monday through Friday while the main office is open. What happens on Saturday or Sunday if you have an accident and need to do some laundry'! Wait till Monday afternoon to put money on the card! Why isn't the machine in the laundry room where people can access it late at night when working people are doing their laundry' The pool is a joke, it's closed 80 percent of the time and when it's actually open, it's so dirty all you want to do is sit by the pool and catch some sun. The icing on the cake was when we moved out, I gave management the required 60-day written notice that I was moving out. The day when I went to move, the secretary from the office came and inspected the apartment. She said the carpets were suppose to be steam cleaned and the oven was dirty and wait, we also lost the paper where I itemized all the problems with the apartment before we moved in! They said they were going to have to charge me for a crack the in the shelves in the refrigerator. Even though I had my boss, and two other people from work see the apartment with me before I moved in, they still tried to charge me for that until I showed them sworn testimonies that all three guys remembered the cracks in the fridge. Not only that, they were going to charge me for having the oven cleaned, $65!! They did not even give my two weeks to make improvements, which are required by Georgia Law! When I attempted to get back my $650 deposit they told me that my deposit was only $250 according to their paperwork. And that the front page of the lease agreement was not signed according to their records. Luckily I had a notarized copy of the lease agreement, with the front page, signed by the High Ridge Apartment manager. How would I have a copy of the exact same lease agreement where the front pages, which are the pages where the amount of rent is listed, and where information of my deposit is listed, are completely different''' They tried to outright steal my money. Also, I went to my bank and they printed out copies of the checks, front and back, and a statement showing High Ridge depositing the checks. The manager took all the paperwork I had for her and said she would need a day or two to research the matter! I do not know if my being Hispanic affected my treatment, but after speaking to other Spanish people living at High Ridge, I feel it is a matter of race, and infact the other three Spanish couples living in our building are moving out as well. I am currently in the process of filing a Small Claims Suit against High Ridge for my deposit and lost wages for all the time I took off of work to try and get my money. The management staff here has been nothing but condescending and cynical, especially with my wife. They treat us like dirt and that we are below them. This is not right! I have also reported High Ridge Apartments to the Better Business Bureau and this is no longer a matter of money but of principal. This was the prettiest place in town for the money, but the headache of dealing with people who are so rude and unwilling to work with you and try to steal your money is not worth it. I would not recommend this place to anybody
