Very Nice!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005
I moved into a furnished 4-bedroom apt. here August of 2005 and transferred to a furnished 2-bedroom this past month. The 4-bedroom layout is very nice. The dining room is huge, the kitchen is big and open and I really loved my bedroom. I had the first bedroom when you walk in, that bathroom was huge and very nicely laid out.
When I moved in the apartment was in very good condition, it didn't look like it had been cleaned however. The carpet turned our feet black for about a week. We called the office and they told us that was a result of it being cleaned (my guess is the cleaning powder absorbed all the dirt') and that if we vaccumed over it once or twice it would go away. Which it did. There were very few maintence problems when we moved in (mostly lights that needed replacing), it took them 2 weeks to get to it but that's probably because a ton of other people needed things done. After that however, they've always responded the next day to any of my maintence requests. The staff here is very nice and helpful.
Other than a lack of lighting (the living room has no ceiling light so you have to get a bunch of lamps and the dining room gets no light from any windows and those track lights are inadequate), the only thing that really bothered me about where I lived was my neighbors. I was surrounded by males who partied...non-stop. Those walls are pretty darn thin, and everynight I'd have to go to bed hearing blaring music and shouting from my inebriated neighbors. One time someone threw-up on the staircase, it didn't get cleaned up for almost a month. That was really gross. Sometimes there'll be a lot of trash laying around the morning after these parties. It gets picked up pretty quickly though.
Also, the individual lease thing, in theory, sounds like a really great idea. If one of your roomies moves out, you won't be stuck with their share of the rent. However! individual leases mean the office can stick in your apartment whoever they want! At first they'll use the profile sheets. They usually call you when they have people who filled them out so you can pick. However, you must choose from those people, you can't say you don't like any of them which was one of the reasons my roommate and I transferred to a 2-bedroom.
I really love the 2-bedrooms! While whoever designed it didn't put too much effort into the layout and didn't think about traffic flow too much, the bedrooms, bathrooms and living room especially are considerably bigger. The lighting in this apartment is excellent. Plus I get plenty of sunlight for most of the day. I especially love the pantry in the kitchen! the 4-bedroom didn't have one of these and it got complicated trying to fit food in the cabinet spaces at times. The laundry room is humongous!
The best thing of all is that it's realllly quiet over here. Except for hearing my neighbors run up and down the stairs occasionally, I generally forget I even have neighbors.
Overall the complex itself is really nice and well taken-care of. It reminds me a lot of Abbey West (however, slightly less expensive!). The only thing that's really a problem is parking! It is soooo hard to park here, especially at night! During the day when people are going to school it's nice. But at night, I've had to park really far away. They have "Guest" spaces, to allow residents to park closer to the buildings, but I've never seen that enforced. People are always parking along the curbs (once trapping me in my space so I had a really hard time leaving for class) People also always park in the handicapped spaces and the unloading zones who don't need to be.
