Riverbend is a nice little complex, with not a lot of flash. The price is probably the lowest you're going to find for apartments in Athens. That said, you should expect the bare bones when it comes to the apartment's design and facilities.

One thing I should mention, that my roommates and I didn't pay attention to when we signed up, is that there is NO DEPOSIT. What we thought was the deposit, that we paid when we signed up with Riverbend, was something they termed "Administration Fees." This meant that when we moved out, and there were some things they needed to fix, we had to pay for it out of our own pocket. Riverbend didn't use this "Administration Fee" to pay for it. Don't make the same mistake we did and assume Riverbend was going to act like every other apartment system known to man.

They really tried to squeeze extra money out of us at the end, too. Along with the damages and painting they charged us for, they also made us pay for the pictures they had to take documenting the state of the apartment! I guess they haven't heard of digital cameras.

The first property manager we had was not all that great. The one they have now, if she is still around, is very good however. She and her staff are very helpful with any problems that need solving throughout the year, and are absolutely patient with anyone,resident or otherwise, that needs things explained.

When I needed small things fixed, the maintenance staff was quick to fix it. However, the last couple months of our stay, our washing machine was pretty much dead and was not doing its job. The first time, the maintenance man came and told us we just needed to use powder instead of gel detergent. When that didn't work, I called to have him come again. Apparently he tried to clean out something in the machine, but that didn't work either. I called again, and they said they'd come out again, but never did. It seems like they'll do anything to avoid replacing any appliance. I called three times for my washing machine, and it was still broken. A friend in an apartment complex next to Riverbend, called once about their refrigerator making noise, and they the next day they had a completely new refrigerator. I would think after three calls about the same appliance, it would be time to replace it.

Overall, it is sort of a risk to live in Riverbend. You might have to pay at the end of your stay, and your appliances might not get fixed. On the other hand, the complex is quiet and the rent is dirt cheap. I enjoyed my stay there, but the end left a bad taste in my mouth. I have mixed feelings about Riverbend, so it's up to you.
