You might think that the location of this place is nice and that the exterior appearance isn't TOO bad. Please don't fall for that. If I had actually taken a look at this complex before signing (after my roommates had already signed), I likely would have backed out.

This place is beyond old. While the interiors have had SOME work done to them, there are extreme signs of aging all over the place. It is not really in the best location after all (besides walking distance to downtown). If you do not relish meeting homeless people every day or so, don't live here. Its not a deal-breaker, but just know that security may not be the best here.

Above all else, this complex will completely screw you on your security deposit. You will be lucky--extremely lucky--to even see a penny back from it. During the walk-through at the end of your lease, the person working for the complex may find a few issues or even nothing at all to mark down. However, even after you sign such a document stating the issues found, THIS IS NOT BINDING. This means that the company can come behind you and find anything they like to charge you with! We were charged $90 for 9 electrical outlet covers to be installed. First, do the math for that--it is ridiculous. Second, we barely HAD nine covers in the entire apartment, much less ones that were even missing their covers! And don't think you can even go talk to the company workers when they reveal that you won't be getting anything back. It is standard policy there NOT to meet you in person. It seems they have had to call the police in the past over security deposits.

If that is not enough to keep you away, I don't really know what is.

This post, it *MIGHT* be a little late to SUE for your Deposit back.

HOWEVER, their ability to do a walk through and consider it "non-binding" is FALSE!!!!
If you do a walk through and you are "Checked out" (ie. no damages)THEY CANNOT keep your Deposit..AND, if they try, you can sue for 3x (TRIPLE) the amount back---AND any Attorney's FEE's you incur (if you hire an Attorney)..

If your landlord keeps your security deposit, you can take him to small claims court. This is called Magistrate Court. If your landlord owns more than 10 units, you can ask the judge to give you three times the amount kept. For instance, if your security deposit was $200, you can ask the court to order the landlord to give you $600. You can also ask for attorneys' fees if you have a lawyer.
