I moved in in the summer, and was familiar with the general area, and the complex is not that far from Ben Burton Park, so I thought it would be a decent quiet area. Wrong. the building went through a supposed "million dollar renovation" but the longer I stay, the more I wonder what they spent the money on. inside and outside it appears nice... but the windows are original, from 1967. heating this 2 bedroom apartment cost me a small fortune this past winter, which was not exceedingly cold... average summer bill was 30-40, winter, 190 a month electric bill! not only does it cost more for heating, but also for AC, which I don't use, but those who do have the same issues in summer as in winter, sky rocketing bills... and its not just the costs, its a huge security issue, as the windows are single pane, and easily broken. I had one crack in half just shutting it, and they replaced it with plexiglass (plastic!!) I've had people try to pry open my sliding glass door, but they were so stupid they tried on the side that doesn't move... so at least the criminals are so dumb they cant figure out how to break in right. I'm moving out as soon as my lease runs out, and finding a better place. I'm not a college kid, like most of the other residents of Athens, but I'm fairly close to that age,( so I don't earn big money, nor do I have mommy and daddy to pay my rent for me) and this place has mostly welfare cases, mexican immigrants (some I question they're validity to be in this country... dont get me wrong, I'm not a bigot or racist, but some just raise my suspicion, I worked construction enough to be able to tell the differences) or HUD reciepients from my few encounters with neighbors. their are few people here under 25, and less than half of those are students at UGA. like one of the other reviews said, its cheap for a reason.
If you're looking to be close to civilization, this is about as far from it and still be near athens as you can get without wandering into the really depraved neighborhoods surrounding athens or getting lost in the pine forests that surround the town.
Its got new carpet, and the maintenence is well kept, as well as a really nice group working the office whom are quite fast at resolving things, but the owners have they're own agenda, and really dont respond to the needs of the residents( i.e. new windows!).
