Good and Bad

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

My husband and I were living with my family for about two years, so we were desperate to get out on our own and perhaps moved too quickly. Anyway, when I moved in there were leasing managers there I really liked. Well, the female anyway, the male I didn't really have a chance to get through his stoic demeaner. They worked with us which apartment we wanted, let us ask a ton of questions, showed us several units and were just overall friendly. The male manager was very particular about trash being left in front of our doors, and other nitpicky stuff he would "tax" residences for but it was for the good of community, so I felt like it was okay. We didn't have a ton of problems at first. Yes, the apartment is old. The carpet is cheap, the drywall is cheap (and we had to use anchors to hang the littlest item up), the windows are cheap, the appliances are cheap, everything is cheap. However, you are getting a 2 bedroom, 1000 square foot apartment with 2 bathrooms for cheap.

However, the other reviewers are right. It is mostly ghetto. I did have several panhandlers come up to my door asking for money (once even to my back sliding glass door, talk about scary!). There were people who would work on their cars in the parking lot. There was loud music and people walking around who wouldn't move when a car came in. My electric bill wasn't too bad, $100, but my apartment was never cool. The washer and dryer are in two different rooms. There were a lot of issues. When the new leasing manager came in, I did feel like the quality of residences were greatly reduced but she was a nice lady and always treated us with respect and gave us prompt service.

Starting in about June/July the plumbing started going crazy. Our master, and guest, bathroom would overflow with feces. The first time everything was handled very promptly. It was quickly cleaned, they came and took up the carpet, and figured out roots were clogging up the system, "almost like someone dumped a house plant into the toilet". I thought this sounded weird. Now, the maintance guy, he's a really sweet guy. I like him, but to take words from another reviewer "he never really fixed anything". I feel bad saying that. He really is a nice old guy, but I'm not sure about his skills. The carpet was to be replaced the next day, or within the week, and it never was. Additionally, the system overflowed several more time. Each time it would take longer and longer (nearly three days of biohazard material in my bathroom, stinking up my house) to get anything done about it. Finally, in October. The outside plumbing was discovered to be deteriorated and needed to be replaced, so it was.

From the beginning I had been reporting my A/C problems to the staff, but nothing was done about it. Two months before that I started reporting my problems again. It took the maintance staff several days to respond, only to turn it off stating that it wasn't running properly and they would come back on a nice day and see if they could fix it. It wasn't, really. I was more concerned about the feces anyway at this point so I let it go. We eventually requested to be released from our lease because of the plumbing problem and that all went down without a hitch. We got our security deposit without a hitch and service was very prompt.
