1016 Lofts formerly Alta West
< | >
I lived in 1016 Lofts from October 2004-July 2006. The first 10-12 months were OK...then it became the worst place to live...ever.
In the first year...there were some small problems...loud tenants, trash, people not picking up after dogs. Most of the problems were small and typical of high density apartments that cater to a younger crowd.
Then, new management came in and it went from bad to downright awful. First, my car was broken into 3 times in 8 months. There is a "security guard" and a "security gate"...both of which are usually not working and utterly useless pieces of garbage. The security guard would get off at 4am...just in time for a car break-in.
Management would give the usual...we're sorry, but it's your fault. (My car is 12 years old with a $20 stereo and no valuables inside).
Maintenance was atrocious. They would not respond to calls even though they had a "24hr response guarantee". When I brought this to managment's attention, they apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. The guarantee is 100% marketing as they don't guarantee jack squat. They also would show up randomly on a Saturday to fix something that wasn't even requested...but not the actual problem! The manager blamed it on the poor maintenance guy's bad English (it wasn't bad at all). They are incompetent and worse...they don't care.
The water billing company charged us an "estimated bill" for water even though they had an electronic meter reader. I was out of town for a whole month and they estimated I used 2500 gallons of water. When I brought this to Ista's attention, "customer service" told me that I must not be showering.
I could not imagine a worse place to overpay for a crappy apartment. The management (Julie) is awful. Some tenants are nice, but most are selfish jerks that don't clean after their dogs and leave trash all over the place. Don't even think about getting anything repaired -- they will ignore you. I would not want to live there for free. Seriously.
Oh, one more thing: as bad as Comcast is, PurDigital pales in comparison. The IPTV service is horribly buggy, their service techs are incompetent, and forget about getting Internet support with a Mac.
I canceled my service with PurDigital and made an appointment for them to pick up theuir equipment. They didn't show and didn't call. Now, 5 months later they just charged my credit card for $500 for their equipment. Unreal.
I moved out (thank god) and was able to only pay a $500 fee. Mainly because I went to the regional VP of Archstone to explain just how bad it was. These people should be bankrupt. Do not live here.

thanks so much for your review (and everyone else's). I was really under the impression that this would be a great place for me to spend my 4 years at while in medical school. Thanks to you, I will not be making that mistake.
