I have been a resident here since May 2000. Never had any real problems. There is the element across the street, and I think there is a very high rate of turnover in the property management office, but no real issues until this weekend.
Allegedly a pipe froze and burst in my bedroom wall on Saturday. After it was all over, there was about 2-3 inches of water on the bedroom, closet and bathroom floor. The management called in this bootleg carpet cleaning company, "Carpet Colors" to clean the mess.
I thought we were really lucky, there was some furniture damage, but we saved our clothes, shoes, etc. We ended up at a hotel for the night. The real problems started after we returned. "Carpet Colors" damaged my TV set while moving it in the bedroom. I contacted the management office. The property manager acted like I was bothering her and told me to put it on my insurance. My insurance won't cover the damage since it wasn't damaged by the water, but by the idiots the apartment complex sent in after. I called "Carpet Colors" to complain and the owner Gilbert basically asked me what I expected him to do about it. I was floored. I called the property manager, who defended the work "Carpet Colors" did and refused to do anything. But even after I complained, she still planned to let these people in my home to repair the carpet after I complained about my property being damaged.
My lease is up in February, and I am getting the heck out of this joint. Everything is fine until something goes wrong, and then the property manager gets all defensive like you are going to sue or something. We have renters insurance and I didn't want to blame anyone for the burst pipe, but they are treating me badly, and I am angry about that. Also, she never called to check on us, never called to say she was sorry. The guy on site at the time of the incident was great. He probably won't be working there long.
For $870 you can find a much better value or buy a house and not have to mess with people like this property manager here. There are a lot of empty apartments here--there is a reason why. Also, should you ignore this, and they try to give you apartment 4104, DON'T DO IT. I know there is going to be a mold problem in that apartment. They left the water in the wall and just patched it up.
