I lived here for three years. I will list pros and cons since I could write a novel in prose.

CONS:
1. Next to the soup kitchen. This is obvious. The con to this is the noise in the morning, and sometimes noise at night. By noise, I mean homeless shouting and general milling about.
2. The driveway is shared with the shelter volunteers (who have their own driveway but refuse to use it). This means that it's always in bad shape and you will constantly have to play "chicken" with the volunteers who come blazing down the driveway assuming they own it.
3. The owner of this building (not to be confused with Braden Fellman, who simply manages it) is not interested in doing any upgrades. A lot of the building isn't up to code, and I can tell you from personal experience that the story below about the ceiling falling in isn't a one-time deal. It happens, I would estimate, every 1.5-2 years.
4. Even though the maintenance men are friendly and respond quickly, they aren't able to do any serious repairs (ie. things that would PREVENT ceilings from falling in) because the owner of the building has no interest in making sure it doesn't happen again.

PROS:
1. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
2. Having the soup kitchen next door means you don't get peddled for money or mugged, or have your car broken into. It's an interesting dynamic - they don't want to commit crimes where they get their meals. In three years here, I haven't had any problem with Open Door.

4. Apartments are large and pretty and look great with a little paint on the walls. The community is nice and my neighbors are friendly. I enjoy living in this area, it makes me feel "one with the city."

6. The office staff are not only friendly but genuinely care about making sure that we are happy with our apartments. Like I said before, they can only do so much when the guy that owns the place is a loser.
