The worst place I have ever lived.

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2008
We have kept track of the ratings on this complex for the entire time we have lived here, as well as talking to people that live here over the years. I want to give an honest review, just like the rest on here. I can tell you that anything positive on this forum, is a person that works at this complex, as everyone that moves in has horrible experiences and moves out after a short time.
From the first year, before I ever even moved in with my boyfriend, he had his car broken into 4 times till it eventually had to be let go for scrap. After I moved in with him, he left for work one morning to find my car gone. After coming back to the apartment and asking where I parked, I ran outside to find it had been stolen. When we contacted the office, they offered no help at all, and said it wasn't their problem as stated in the lease. My car was found in East Atlanta totaled, without any concern from AMLI. Two days later, he left for work again to find another residents back car window busted out.
Not only is theft a massive issue, there are illegal aliens living 5-8 per apartment with loud kids and large work trucks that ding your car. We even had a drug head below us asking us for drugs and walking around outside talking to himself.
We finally tried to move out, and they conned us into moving to the newer side of the complex. The first week there we realized it was a hefty mistake. I purchased a used truck for my single parent sister, and was driving it to her town the next day, to come out and find it had been towed by the complex for the registration not being current. How could it be' I just bought it that week. After going through horrible experiences of going to a dangerous shady area of town to retrieve it, I was told that I had to take it immediately because I was only allowed one car at AMLI. What!!!' Are you kidding me' The complex eventually said they would refund the expenses, to later lie and offer a $50 gas car. That is ridiculous.
As things have gone along, we have had no air filter changed in a year, oh and I forgot to mention being at home one day, and out on the balcony, to walk in and be scared to death to find people in my apartment. I was shaking and scared and found out it was AMLI employees. I walked in on them over my boyfriends desk snooping in his things. They immediately left. Is this what happens when we are not home' I am scared to know what else they go through if they hadn't been caught. The carpet is cheap, the fixtures are cheaply bought and even though they are knowingly going to break......you have to replace them or get fined a lot of money.
My gas has been stolen 5 times in the last month, a helicopter chasing a criminal has been overhead a few times, there were 2 murders across the street from here...of which the manager said isn't their problem and not an issue for residents here. There have been illegal aliens walking under the bridge from the river fishing for food on our property. We reported a coyote twice, and the people in the office looked dumbfounded and stunned as to what to do, and even acted like we were lying. Wonder were those cats are disappearing to' Let alone the threat of disease. No animal control was called. There was a guy that tried to start a fire under the bridge that was chased and no cops called. Two head maintenance men have mysteriously moved out.....one I ended up working with in Decatur, and he told me that the company here were shady and treated people bad. There have been numerous police and fire called here, and now they are moving in really bad characters, one caught out in the open with a gun that is on this board. We also live across from the freight elevator and all hours of the night and day people are moving in. They use ours for 2 buildings over and this weekend 3 families were moving i or out, and were slamming furniture against our door and stacking it in front of it. I couldn't even get into my apartment. Let's not forget to mention someone sticking trash outside my door of theirs and I put an office chair outside my door once, came out an hour later to load into my car to take to my family, and it was gone. It's the 2nd time that has happened.
There is trash all over the place, and no one bothers to pick it up, and when I caught a Dekalb Police officer outside the complex and asked him why they didn't patrol, he told me that all AMLI had to do is call and they would ride the property free of charge, but that AMLI chose not to. This is right from a police officer here. Not only that but I met a police officer, and became friends with him and when he asked where I lived, I tld him and he said "That place is bad, we get called there all of the time".
Things that I have gotten straight from the mouths of people living here that have happened to them:
AMLI takes everyone's refund no matter how clean the apartment.
A young couple were broken in on and robbed while the girl was sound asleep. (Scary to think what could have happened to her)
Told by slack security that they only make $11 an hour and carry pepper spray so protecting us isn't in their agenda.
I myself walked up on a security guard urinating in the corner of our parking deck.
I walked in on a second sitting in the computer room chatting on IM...late at night...the entire time I was in there, and later.
Told by an apartment finder employee that lives here and has since moved out, that they don't suggest these apartments to anyone because the management is cheap, the apartments are crappy, and they aren't safe.
Someones home was walked into and robbed while they were grilling.
Another was broken into and completely whipped out of electronics.
These aren't the only cases.../.there are many. What does the office say' Not their problem and they don't have to warn us of crime.
Today:
This morning my boyfriend went to talk nicely with the office to ask if we could be let out of our lease, and gave all the reasons above to be let out. This is when she offered the $50 gas card and then said we would have to pay $1900 to get out and give a 60 day notice. She basically called him a liar when he mentioned the moving issues and residents not being able to get into the parking deck because of moving trucks...mostly moving out for the same reasons I might add. She also said that the murders across the street are of no concern for residents and that it's not their problem if we aren't safe or there are robberies. Her statement, and I quote "That's not our problem". At that point he was angry and talking animatedly...not yelling mind you, when she said get out of my office or I'll call the police! Call the police' That's something they aren't good at when we are robbed. I suggest never moving here. I'm afraid to leave the apartment at night...or during the day even since most robberies are then when it is their watch. Sooner or later, someone will be murdered or raped, and "It won't be their problem". Oh and $880 rent is actually around $1200 plus after they take on their fees. They even charge is to charge us. Yes, there is a fee for getting a bill. The staff are rude, and useless, and treat you like crap, and don't bother to solve any issue.
