The perils of this (mis)management company

I lived at an Atlanta AMLI property from 2004 through 2005 however my experience with this (mis)management company did not begin there. I lived at another AMLI property in Texas for one year when I was being transferred to Atlanta. I was told it would cost $1200 to break my lease outright and only $250 to transfer to another AMLI property. Not being a particularly intelligent person, I thought, "Wow, that is a great deal!"

I paid my $250 and set the wheels of my transfer in motion. I had to pay all new fees including a deposit and "administrative fee" whatever the hell that is. All the transfer saved me was a $50 application fee. I later learned that they resubmitted my credit again although I had never been late atmy old place thus lowering my credit score 14 points, thanks for that and thanks for your generosity.

A few weeks later I received a note from my old apartment complex in Dallas stating that I owed them over $1500 in pet damages and would be EVICTED WITHIN ONE MONTH from my new place if I did not pay them. To add insult to injury they would not accept any more rent from me. Now, this was a shock to me as I never nor did any of my friends have a pet in my apartment. I found out that one of the worthless drunks they call "maintenance" said he saw me several times with a dog.

Now, I know you think that this is harsh but I feel comfortable calling this person a worthless drunk as once I returned home and saw this person drinking one of my beers in my apartment after calling in to have an appliance repaired. I wouldn't have really cared but he was not repairing said appliance but sitting on my sofa on his cell phone.

I asked to see the record of these repairs and was told that if I were to "check my lease" none needed to be provided. My only protection was a move-out inspection at which I could have been present. AMLI loves throwing your lease in your face. I only hope that they do not show up on the joyous day of the birth of my first child crying out "check your lease, check your lease..." and walk out with my newborn. I wouldn't put it past them.

In short, this moved made AMLI about $2300 in fines, fees and deposits I am certain to never see again. Just stay away from them all.
