Good apt but it has some issues

I have lived here for the past 6 months or so. Overall, I think AMLI WP is a fairly good place to live. It is in a good location (right by I-75 and OK Cafe), is only a few minutes from Buckhead, and is a liveable place. A washer and dryer is provided, there is covered parking, fairly well-kept grounds, and above all, a good price. I have a roommate style 2 bed 2 bad floorplan and I think that we got it at a steal for $895 a month. In addition, we pretty much set our own lease terms (we did an 8 month lease because 8 months fit our schedule). The leasing agents are great-- very friendly and more importantly, still go out of their way to help and please me as a resident (in other words they don't just leave you hanging after you move in). I will say that in my building it seemed like most apartments were empty throughout the entire summer, which is possibly why I got the deal that I have, but it has filled up since then. I think there are a lot of GA Tech and GA State students that have moved in for the semester.
On the downside, these apartments are not new and it shows. Don't get me wrong, they look great on the outside (kind of a Spanish mission style), but on the inside things really show. The dishwashers are very out of date. Mine stopped working after a few months (it was replaced within 2 days however). There are some crime problems. 2 cars were broken into in our parking garage this summer. Also, there are some very strange bugs that like to invade the apartments. They look like centipedes with giant long legs. I don't know where they come from, but I commonly find them in my bathroom sink and in my shower/tub. I would say on average I see about 5 or 6 per week. There are frequent power outages. I'm not talking about long extended outages but the short kind that are long enough to shut down your computer and make your digital clocks blink. During the summer these happened 2 or 3 times per day. Now they happen at least 2 or 3 times per week. Not a big problem, but it is a nuisance. Phone lines are not setup correctly (in my apartment anyway) and between Bellsouth and AMLI, no one would fix it for us. So we have one phone in the kitchen and that's it even though there are jacks in both bedrooms (neither of which work). The kitchen and bathroom cabinets are the definition of cheap. They're made of particle board with a pickled oak piece of veneer and angled edges (the angled edges allow for no pulls because you pull on the door so no pull is needed--very cheap). So don't buy the claim of "maple" cabinets. The closeness of the refrigerator to the wall makes it quite hard to utilize the crisper drawer. Another problem is the noise. If you live in the 5th building, you are right by I-75, so be aware if you don't like to hear cars going by at 90 mph 24-7. Also, you can't hear a thing when you play tennis. You have to yell to the other side to communicate with your opponent. Another bad side that no one has talked about on this forum is how bad it is to get out of the apartments in the mornings (7:45-8:15ish). Westminster is just down the street and the parents utilize all of West Paces and neighboring Paces Ferry Road. This means if you are trying to get to I-75 to head downtown it can take up to 15 minutes to get out.
I will not be renewing my lease. The price is nice, but I would rather spend a little extra money and live in a newer complex. However, I do recommend it to those looking for a fairly nice place to live that are looking to save some $$. odusyNYCcZ7yL3Bj5JtG
