What is going on...'''!!!

Get up this morning to find a note from management stating that there was an attempted armed robbery near the 3rd floor elevator last Saturday, 2 August. What is going on with this building / management & specifically the 3rd floor' I reside on the 3rd and was the subject of the apartment break-in three (3) weeks ago. This does not bode well for residents - I'm glad I'm leaving now.
Three (3) weeks ago, Wednesday, 16 August, I came home to find my front door kicked in, door frame destroyed & apartment robbed; TV, computer, camera, etc. Police take a statement, dust for prints, but ofcourse it's not a priority nor am I so I don't expect to see my things again. It's not as if the police are beating the pavement looking for my stolen items. The garage video was reviewed to find two (2) suspicious characters backed up to the double doors in a white Kia with their trunk open. All of that can be seen, but they cannot see faces or plate numbers' I find that difficult to believe.
I speak with management and they want to charge me 1 1/2 month's rent to break the lease. Are you kidding me'! I'm robbed in your 'SECURED' building, on the 3rd floor & you want me to pay to leave. That's crazy! I had to send a very heated email to their corporate office to have that notion rectified. The nerve of some businesses astounds me.
Now, as I said, I read today's note from management. I will be happy to leave.
My best to anyone who remains. I hope you have no problems during your stay.

That is terrible news about your break-in. I too have lived at Alexander for a year and was shoked at the notice. Being that your place was broken into while you were at work and no other units were bothered I'd have to say that sounds like a classic case of an inside job, someone that knows you, your property and your habits.
I agree with the previous comment, we have to stop letting people in and we must insist that the Terrace level door leading to the street is made more robust (a hard jerk and you can open it).
Best of luck with breaking the lease (although the circumstances should be enough.)

I'm really sorry this happened to you. I'm also unhappy with the demise of this property. I've lived here for about two years. I assure you, you can break your lease, but you may have to go kicking and screaming. I received the notice about the break-in, and was shocked. As tenants, we all need to stop allowing people inside the gates for starters! Good luck.

Unfortunately crime can happen anywhere. No matter how high the gates or controlled the access is if someone wants to get in they will! Apartment communities are not in the crime fighting business they are there to provide a place to live. If you have a problem with crime speak with your local police department. P.S. I do not work in the leasing office.

I hear you! A maintenance guy came to check out my waterheater, because I had no water. He saw it was unsafe, and left saying he would return on Monday (this was a sunday night) at 1m there was a fire in my locked closet where the hot water heater was. It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced. The management said they would give me 10% off rent because THEIR maintenance guy was the reason I had a fire in the apartment. Its digusting how they run this "business." Thanks for the $80 off Alexander on Ponce!

To the last person who posted, would you recommend AOP to future residents who may be reconsidering moving in?

To the last posting dated 10 September I would not recommend AOP. SInce July there have been three apartment break-ins & a foiled armed robbery. There was a robbery in the gas station on Ponce & Piedmont and at the complex connected to Nancy's Pizza, which is just down the block, there have been four apartment break-ins since June of this year. I would suggest a different neighborhood alltogether.
