I have lived in this complex for about two years and I have decided recently to break my lease. I have never been treated as badly by a property as this. I was the subject of a theft in my apartment that was committed by a maitenance staff of the property. The property manager acknowledged what happened and fired the staff. However, when I went to seek compensation for what I lost... the response was "Well... they were only a contractor... so we can't help you. Sorry hun." I have never heard of such a line of crap. They let someone in my home who stole from me... acknowledged it... but then shafted me. My next incident came when I lost a set of car keys and called the property manager after hours to see if they had been turned in.
The response' "Well... I saw some up by the mailboxes... you might want to look there."
The property manager didn't feel the need pick them up as a courtesy to her tenant and put them in lost and found. That would have been too much to ask I guess. She instead left them there for someone else to pick up. Luckily another tenant saw them and held them until they heard I lost some. It is sad that they had to though.
The worst thing' When she thought I hung up the phone... I heard her mutter that she felt I was an idiot for calling. I have never met a more plastic person in my life. She is sweet as pie when she wants you to rent or if she nicely telling you "no"... but it is truly a facade. Do not rent here and suffer this sort of behavior.

Basically they're challenging you to sue them. So do it. They're responsible for their staff whether that person was employed as an independent contractor or not.

I feel this person may be ignored in court...the judge may ask if they person had their own renter's insurance. Did you?
