Bad Complex; Has Gone Down The Tubes; Stay Away

Im not about to get in the middle of the nasty battle between the residents and the management of this place, but I will share some of my thoughts over many years spent in the complex. I caught wind of what has been going on in the community from a friend, and couldnt help but comment.

Prior to leaving, I lived there for more years than probably 75% of the people who currently reside there, or for that matter, who ever resided there. So I know a little bit more than most of the present crew, what the actual accurate history of this community really is.

At first, the community was managed by Post Company, or actually a division of it. Ironically, most of the people talking on here, including the people talkng about Post, and how wonderful they are, dont even know who used to manage it.

Things were relatively ok when Post's subsidiary ran the place. The place steadily went downhill when Dewberry decided to run the place himself. Why he did this was beyond me. He got chintzy to the bone, and boy did it ever show. Management at first wasnt the worst, but progressively became so bad, that in 2003, they lost tremendous amounts of people and the place seemed to be half empty. Our building had entire floors that were 70% empty. It was never like that before. The economy wasn't an excuse, because I had friends all over town in apts and none of their places were to the point of mine. It was sometimes eery to come home to such empty buildings. Some buildings were like a ghosttown. That changed as they dropped the rents like a rocket to bring people in. The class of the people changed markedly from what I was used to.

Just when one thought things could not get worse, it got worse when Dewberry tried to save even more money, and consolidated the management from his 2 complexes, into one. So basically, there was one manager running two complexes several blocks apart from each other. And what a quinella this manager was. I understand the venom people vent on here, because I saw much of what has been discussed here with my own two eyes. Things were not pretty here. The place was not a pretty sight. You just had to keep your nose away from those people and you would not have trouble. I had my own run in with that woman, but I know how to walk away unlike some other people.

The community was run very poorly, and the people in the office were extremely rude and snobby. There was total lack of interest in the tenants, and glaring incompetence. The maintenance also went down the tubes (which was fabulous when Post's people ran it and an older man after that continued the legacy) when Dewberry all of a sudden started hiring kids instead of professional people to maintain the place. And I mean kids. Many buildings had problems with all sorts of things.

I wondered if it was greed driving the owner, or massive financial problems. Whatever it was, the place spiraled downward from a previous decent apartment community to one I was ashamed to live in.

I moved before the new people took over, so I can't comment with any informed judgement in regard to them. However, I still know two people who presently live there. We go to dinner together, play sports together, and still hang out. All I can say is that they vouch for the fact that Worthing is actually worse than Dewberry Capital was.

Apparently the office has some real nasty characters in it. But as for it being any worse than Dewberry, I find that somewhat hard to believe, because Dewberry had brought the management of the place to its stretched bare bones bottom in almost every conceivable way. It became like a newer community that was run like a project.

Updates were done on the buildings, but no money, or effort, was put towards securing or providing good management or maintenance.

People on here can yap all day long, but the summary of what this community is and was, is a place that WAS semi-ok five to seven years ago, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, but then free falled into oblivion due to the people involved in owning and running the place.

The clientele has also degenerated from a relatively decent crowd in 2000 and 2001, to well, you dont want to know. Its about 40% good and the rest sucks.

Whoever financially owns the place these days, if they were smart, would turn it back over to the people who ran it when I was there in the beginning. The company that ran it was not called Post, but we were told that the management company was owned and controlled by them.

Come by and check out Atlantic Station sometime. Its really a lot of fun. The entire mall and center is a blast with all sorts of cool restaurants, pubs, and fun places, and the IKEA store is fabulous!

I currently live in Atlantic Station and like the area far better than Glenridge. The traffic is horrible in that area and its so far away from anything enjoyable and interesting. It takes 30 minutes to get anywhere most people want to go, so people end up not going. I am now close to the places where most people want to be to do things, namely Midtown, Ponce and Little 5 Points, and the fun areas south of Piedmont on Peachtree. I am so much happier and even ride my bike more often, go to Piedmont Park, etc.

There are lot of great places along Peachtree Rd, nr Wolfgang Pucks, and also on the east side, by Ansley Park and that whole lower Piedmont area. Ansley, and everything south of it, has many fantastic apartments, along with great food, pubs, and retail. Plus, you areclose to all the theaters, music, and fun cultural events. Its really like living in a whole different world and another Atlanta down here.

My college roomate lives with her boyfriend in Gables nr Perimeter Mall and they are building a huge community next to her by the Borders store. There are also loads of things going up just west of Perimeter Mall including several big buildings and new restaurants. That area is also a nice place to live, and super convenient, but its also still way too far away from where most want to do things in the evening and weekends.

The area by Cafe Intermezzo and R Thomas is terrific, as are some super quaint places near Houstons, Micks and the big Barnes and Noble. Basically anything on Piedmont or Lower Peachtree most will enjoy.

Good luck!
