I am not satisfied with the conditions of the apartment at 2373 Dunwoody Crossing, Apt B. On January 29, 2008, I came into the leasing office and spoke with Lisa McMillian in regards to leasing an apartment with Broadstone. A current resident had shown me her apartment and I immediately fell in love with it. Lisa showed me two model apartments, the Hibiscus and the Iris. I chose the Hibiscus because I am a single parent with three children- two who reside with me. I knew that the Hibiscus model had a garden room that I could use as a third bedroom for my son. I was shown the Iris model and the Gardenia. Lisa advised me that the Gardenia was the same floor plan as the Hibiscus, only instead of the patio; I would have a garden room. When we had gone back to the office, Lisa advised me that I would need to get two money orders: one for a 25.00 application fee and the second one for 100.00 to hold the apartment. She then gave me a welcome letter with the address 2373 B Dunwoody Crossing. She told me that the 100.00 would hold the apartment until I was ready to move in. After speaking to my friend about the apartment, she advised me to stay on them because she too had experienced a bad move-in. She told me that she had chosen the Hibiscus, but her apartment was not ready, so she was given the Iris instead. That was fine for her because she only has one child. I, on the other hand, requested a Hibiscus because a have a girl and two boys, who should not be sharing the same room.
During the first week of February (actually February 1), I contacted Lisa to see when I could view the apartment. Lisa told me to call her back on 14th because it takes them a couple of days to get the apartment ready to view. I then took my current roommate to the complex to see the apartments because she was looking for her own apartment. Lisa told me again that I would not be able to see my apartment until around the 14th. I had gone on a trip out of town and returned one week later. I called on February 15th to see if I could view the apartment, but was told by one of the leasing agents, that I could not see the apartment because they were putting in a dishwasher and to call back on Monday. When I called on Monday, Lisa advised that I could not see the apartment because it was not ready and that new carpet was being put in. She also advised that the apartment needed to be painted. She told me to call her back on Friday of that same week. When I called on that Friday, I was told that I needed to wait again because I having new light fixtures put in. I called back the next week to find out that my apartment would not be ready in time and that I would be given an Iris. I explained to Lisa that an Iris was not what I wanted and it was not what I was promised. I also gave then 100.00 under a verbal and written commitment that I would receive 2373 Dunwoody Crossing and that the apartment would be ready on March 1, 2008. Lisa told me that the apartment wasn t going to be ready because there was a leak in the roof. I told her that one week was long enough to fix a leak because it had rained several times before that particular day and the apartment maintenance already had a month to fix my apartment. Lisa told me that she would call me back by the end of the day. When Lisa called me back, she advised me that the apartment would be ready and beautiful. I then tried to get my utilities in my name, only to find out that 2373 was given to someone else. The tenant had service set up to be turned over in their name as of February 29th, the day that I was scheduled to move in! I scheduled to have my utilities in my name as of the 28th in order to override their connection date. When I called Broadstone to confront them about the lies I was told, one of the leasing agents hung up in my face. He told me, yeah, I did give it to someone but it wasn t going to be ready anyway .
Lisa told me to come to the complex on Wednesday, February 27th to view the apartment. So, I left work early only to be told that I still could not view my apartment because it was not ready. I explained to the manager that I needed to be able to get a lease in order to transfer and enroll my children in school and that I could not keep taking off work to come up there. I was then told to come on Thursday. I went up to Broadstone to view my apartment, only to be disappointed. When I entered the management office, Lisa was there and had me to go ahead and sign the lease. I told her that I wanted to see the apartment first. She then said that it would not matter either way because the apartment would not be officially mine until I gave them the rent check and had done a walk-through. She wanted to get the paperwork out of the way so that I wouldn t have to spend too much time waiting. She then called someone to do the walk-through with me. When I entered the apartment, I immediately felt disgusted! The walls had black smudges on them and the paint on the ceiling was nasty. I originally didn t like the paint color, but I most importantly did not like the carpet. The carpet is absolutely nasty!!! The carpet is nasty from being walked on for so long and has black spots in it. It was absolutely nasty and had dirt all in it. I immediately pointed it out to the person that was showing it to me. I was told that all of the apartments had the same interior which included new fixtures, paint and carpet. But most importantly, I was promised new carpet. I refuse to live in a place where I am not happy. I will not pay for an apartment in which the living conditions are not to my standard. The manager, Demetrius, did a walk-through with me and I also showed him how nasty the master bedroom door was. Even he said that door was nasty.
I thought that Broadstone would provide me with a nice, clean environment to live in. This was the impression that I was given when I viewed the other apartments. Demetrius called me later today to tell me that they refuse to replace the carpet because it was considered to them to be livable. I don t understand how the decision was left to someone who will not be paying my rent!! That is crazy and ludicrous!! I can not even believe that the management would want to rent that apartment with carpet that has clearly been there for years and never changed out. I don t think it is fair to ask me to deal with something as nasty as that. I have always provided a clean environment for my children and I will continue to do so, but not in that apartment with nasty carpet. As a single mother, I provide the absolute best possible care for my children. My son has Asthma, so therefore I absolutely refuse to place him in an environment where he will not be able to have clean air because the carpet is so nasty!! What I am most upset about is that I gave up my apartment under the assumption of all the promises that were made to me. I feel deceived and will do everything in my power to make sure that justice is served and that I will collect damages that incurred because of this. Lisa did all she could for me that was within her power, but i'm not sure why they think that it is okay to rent a nasty apartment to someone. I'm the one that has to pay the rent, not them.

You can always call the bbb. Also, keep a documentation of all data. Also, there is their corporate offices and you can call code enforcement. I use to live in a place that was horrible and had the same treatment. Thank God I got out the lease with all the monies I paid. These are the steps I used. I do not know if you are trying to get out of your lease or what. It worked for me. Good Luck.

RUN! They suck!! The air is NOT clean in that place and if your son has asthma, this will make it worse. My daughter was sick the entire 6 months we lived there, summer and winter! HORRIBLE!

Demetrius is the most unethical staff memeber I've run into there. I actually watched him argue with an elderly woman when she wanted to renew here lease at the same rate. He asked me if I wanted to renew and I just walked out. You can write the corporate office but they won't respond. These guys are all scumbags.
