PROS:
1. Location: With the opening of the GA Aquarium (walking distance)and rapid development in downtown, the action is closing in on Centennial Place. Georgia Tech and its football stadium are walking distance.
2. Parking: For a midtown apartment, they have very spacious lots. For every occupied parking space, there are at least two empty ones at any given time. Lots of non-resident GA State and GA Tech students park here to save money, but thats always on-street.
3. Spacious rooms and big windows: Every room has large windows and in most apartments the kitchen too has a window.
4. Maintenance: Never kept me waiting more than a day.
5. Newness: Most apartments look fairly new. Appliances are mostly new and sturdy. Home fittings like cupboards etc are not the cheap ones.
CONS:
1. Management: Agents are generally nonchalant and unresponsive. Dont expect efficient service. Most of the time they wont know whats going on.
2. Residents: Some residents are not exactly the kind of neighbors you would like to have. One of my neighbors regularly vandalized the parking lot gates for no apparent reason so that its security was compromised. Some own wrecked cars you wouldnt want parked near yours. But I never heard of anyone bothering any other resident.
3. Homeless: There is a homeless shelter and a Salvation Army house close by so you sometimes see homeless people walking by on the streets. However, I never once saw any of these INSIDE the apartment complex.
4. Crime: Nothing serious, but thrice in my 1.5 yr stay there, GATech students walking home late at night were robbed of valuables after dark on the outskirts of the subdivision. Nothing to worry if you own a ride. I never had a car but I kept safe hours and nothing ever happened.
5. Gym and pool: Dont think about it. They are small and ill-equipped.
CONCLUSION:
I wouldnt recommend Centennial if you have money to spend on better neighborhoods in Midtown like those on Ponce and Piedmont. But if you are on a tight budget, Centennial is certainly worth it. I moved to CA after graduating from Tech but if I had to go back to Atlanta, I would gladly go stay there.
