Nice apartments, but not not too secure

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
Note: These apartments have been renamed Century Peachtree Creek. They are now under new management.
I've been living at the Heights for about 6 months now. If the community were made a little more secure, I would consider renewing my lease.
During the course of my lease, my apartment was broken into. The door was kicked until the door jamb failed. Thankfully, no one was in the apartment. They walked away with a lot of electronics. The staff did about as much as they could. They called the police, waited at the apartment with me, and fixed the door when the police had completed their report. I really don't think there was much that could have been done to avoid the problem, but I do think that some security cameras on the gates, and better gates, could help deter future break-ins.
Other than that, I don't really have any complaints.
The building construction isn't stellar. If you get stuck with bad neighbors, you could often end up hearing them move, talk, or whatever else they happen to do. The insulation doesn't seem to be too great, either. Air flow also seems to be a problem, as some rooms seem to be much, much cooler than others. There is a slight unevenness in our living room floor. I like the kitchen, though. There's a lot of cabinet and counter space. The pantry is very small.
We had some roaches after a few months. It started with a few, but after a few weeks it had gotten pretty bad. I got some roach poison and baited around the kitchen. After a week or so I never saw a roach again.
The biggest maintenance problem we had involved the air conditioner. The condensation drain had backed up, and it caused water to leak out. Luckily we noticed the leak early before it could cause any damage. Maintenance came by immediately after we notified them and fixed it in an hour or so.
I've never had any problems with the staff. One month we had a notice saying we were late for paying the water/trash/sewer bill when we had already paid it, but I went to the front office and talked with them and they said it was their mistake.
I wouldn't really recommend living here. It's a very decent place to live, but in the same area you could rent a house for the same price and have a larger space and feel a lot safer. Though I never really felt like I would be in danger at these apartments, I do feel like my stuff could be taken again. If you live here, I would suggest to get renter's insurance (which you should get no matter where you rent) and get your alarm system monitored.
