Want your car stolen' Do it here!

I can't believe this story is true...I've never experienced anything like this.

So I signed a lease and on moving day I picked up my keys. Went to the apartment and discovered the door would not open. Someone had locked the dead bolt that can only be locked/unlocked from the inside. Walked around and discovered an open window. Upon entering the apartment there was evidence of drug use. Thankfully the apartment managers were nice enough to move me into another apartment.

In the next four weeks I received notice of 5 cars stolen, 1 car broken into with items stolen, and 1 apartment broken into with items stolen. Here comes the good part...

Since I changed apartments on move in day, I never signed a new lease. I got back from being gone for a week and discovered one of the letters saying 3 cars were stolen. Then I went to the apartment office to pick up a package. The managers asked me to sign the new lease and I told them I just got back and got the notice of the stolen cars and I was a little concerned for my safety and I wanted a couple days to think about it. They completely freaked out and said I was refusing to sign the lease. I told them no, I just wanted to think about it. I asked them what they were going to do about security and they told me I could "call 911 if I saw anything" and the owners didn't "want to spend any money on security." Their response was basically that this happens all over Atlanta and they aren't going to do anything about it. They even told me that they didn't consider my first apartment that was broken into a problem. They said it was a couple of kids playing around and they never filed a police report of it happening. So not only do they not want to spend money on security, they don't report all the incidents that happen. Who knows what else has gone on here'!

The very next day I had a notice to vacate in 60 days. Fair enough, I've lived here a month without a lease and I guess asking for a couple more days to think about it is completely unacceptable. Especially since I expressed concern about my safety.

To be fair, the place seems pretty decent for a good price...as long as you feel safe in this type of environment.

EDIT: December 5th, 2006
Two more apartments broken into in building 2 during the day.
