Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived here for 7 months, renewed for 12 more, then moved to Buckhead for a year (thought I would save money, didn't due to high utility bills, gas bills, gas for car), and now I'm moving back.
The person who said the rent is too high needs to check the surrounding complexes. Highland Walk is $200 higher, Post Renaissance $300 higher. People who said the office staff is a problem need to check the performance of the office staff at 450 Piedmont for comparison. Patricia and Darrius were always cool to me when I lived there.
My old apartment was a courtyard view. The concrete courtyard acted as an amplifier for barking dogs and people on their balconies, and the helicopter from the hospital that occasionally flies over. I quit noticing after the first week. I never heard a sound from my neighbors through the walls, but I was on the top floor.
Maintenance in the unit was good; there was one problem with a door that they had difficulty with, but it was eventually fixed. Yes, the cabinets are covered in vinyl imitating wood, but the countertops are Corian or something like it, and the appliances are better models than the average rental unit has. If the complex had a weak area when I lived there before, it was maintenance of the common areas - elevator lobbies had unravelling carpet, hallway fans were iffy, the magnetic fire doors would not always stay open, and they were a bit slow to repair fitness equipment. I can tell there's been some improvement in this area by the addition of the 2-stage gate.
The whole 19 months I lived there, I saw 2 silverfish in my apartment. No roaches, no ants, no centipedes. I'm looking forward to that after this Buckhead place, which is overrun with all 3.
About the location: Boulevard and Highland is in transition. The hospital and its peripherals have taken over 2 other corners at the intersection, the last corner is a vacant lot, and next to it is a junky thrift store. I never saw any violence of any sort there, just homeless people begging, and you get that anywhere downtown. There's easy access to L5P and the interstate, although Marta's a little far to walk.
Not perfect, but the best deal I could find downtown.
