I've lived here with my wife for 6 months now, and I don't really understand the whole "apartment from Hell" thing. Sure, we have roaches and sometimes we can hear people having sex in nearby units, but the location is great, the rent is very affordable, the place feels quite safe to us, the view is nice, and the building is solidly built. We also enjoy the diversity of people living here (although I know there are some undesirable sorts here, I think they're a minority--the complaints about thugs, ---- etc. are disproportionate , I believe, based more on prejudice [whether racial or social] and homophobia). My wife and I are both white and we feel both comfortable and safe here.

Overall, I think the Darlington is a great choice for people who want a very affordable, albeit very simple and modest, apartment in a great area. Especially good as a first apartment. Not for people who freak out at the sight of a roach or for narrow minded people who don't want to live in the same building with ---- or young black men.
