Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004

In April of 2002, I moved to Empirian at Northridge with a roommate because of the location and the price. I stayed in the same apartment for 2 1/2 years until my roommate moved away. I was then faced with finding a one-bedroom somewhere. It seemed obvious to stay here because it is less expensive than any around the area; I would have no new application fees; I wouldn't have to move very far; maybe most important, I liked it here. The entire new application process was smooth and easy and was completed approximately 2 weeks before I was scheduled to move in. Upon entering the new apartment after signing the lease, I found that the a/c was dismantled and the apartment had not been cleaned. (never sign the lease before inspecting the apartment.) Trusting in the management staff's assurance that the air would be fixed immediately, I continued my move. The air was fixed after 5 days of sweltering heat.

During my move, someone attempted to burglarize the apartment by coming through the door, which held despite a badly cracked doorframe. He or she then tried breaking the bedroom window. Fortunately, they were unable to get into the apartment by sheer luck. I notified the office of the attempted burglary and the broken doorframe and window. It took a couple of days for the maintenance staff to come around and repair the doorframe. The window, as of the date of this review, has still not been fixed. Further, the/a burglar was back today to attempt another break-in. Thanks to my personal modifications to the window in question, he or she remained outside of the apartment once again. I fear that I will not be so lucky next time. As a result, I have resorted to storing everything I own of any value offsite.

For 2 1/2 years (even during the reign of the current management), I have been happy and secure here. This is no longer the case.
