Pretty bad but getting better

If you plan on renting a place at Empirian at Northridge, then let me give you some hints.
CONS:
First, don't believe everything you'll be told. The office staff told us this is a wonderful gated community with 3 pools, 6 lighted tennis courts, and so on. Actually, the gates never worked, one of the pools was out of order in the middle of the summer, and the lighted tennis courts not only that they are not lighted at all, but also only some of them have working nets and almost decent playing surfaces. In addition, we've been told that our apartment has microwave. So we left our microwave at the place we moved out from. We had to argue for few days only to get a promise that a microwave will be installed. It took them about a month to order one and install it but at least this was done. Since we're talking about maintenance ... don't you ever waste your time and energy reporting an issue at the office, it will never be handled. You think you can trick the system by claiming it is an emergency' Think again!!! My toiled got cloghed in the morning and I got it fixed only after I called the emergency maintenance line around 10PM at night. So, take my advice: if you have a maintenance issue, wait until the office is closed and call the emergency line.
PROS:
However, there are few good things to mention as well. Overall, there is a clear sense of improvement. The waterscape you see on any online picture with the community was finally fixed and it is working. One of the nets for the tennis courts was finally fixed, too. Our microwave was installed eventually. People at the office seem to be friendly, not helpful but at least friendly. Parking areas had been recently repainted. Some green areas had also been taken care of. You can often see at night few guys with "enforcement" outfit moving around the community in a golf cart. I have no idea what they are doing but it gives a little sense of increased security. There has been announced that the gates will soon become operational. I wish to see this happening and maybe I'll not move out when myh lease will expire.
