Great place ... for the price

I posted this initially as a response, but I thought I should post it as a full review now that I'm out:

"The highway noise is pretty loud if your unit is facing the highway. I eventually got used to it, but it's not really pleasant. Try to get a unit facing away from the highway (and Northside Drive, if you can).

The maintenance/upkeep ... well, I think you get about what you pay for. $800 to be right in the city ... it's a great deal. These aren't modern, brand-new apartments, and they will fall apart a bit. But you should know that going in. The good thing is, the maintenance guy will gladly fix any major problems. (And that goes for ants, which can also be an issue.)

I have heard problems about car break-ins. The "security" gate is a joke. It's not keeping anybody out, and half the time it's broken. I think as long as you don't keep valuables in your car, you should be fine (my car was never touched). Seriously people, this is Atlanta. If you keep valuables in plain sight, you're asking for your car to be broken into. This is not a problem that's exclusive to Fernwood.

Someone posted a note about package notification (or lack thereof). Sucks, but if you know you got a package on the way, just track it online and check in with the office peeps when it should be in. It's annoying, but not the end of the world.

The parking walk can be annoying to some. I don't mind so much. It's not like you ever have to search for a space, like some places in the city. So you might have to walk for 30-60 seconds. Not a big deal.

And yeah, I don't know WTF is up wiith the water bills. I average $30, but sometimes I get twice that for no reason I know.

I upgraded when my lease was up. But if this is your price range and you want to live close to everything, this is one of the best deals going I think. I spent two years here."

Bottom line: Great place for the price, location and washer/dryer. If you're a diva and expect perfection for $800 and this location, you're kidding yourself.
