BEAUTIFUL DESPAIR

THE AREA
I lived at Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts for nearly 5 years. It became home for me and now that I've been away for nearly two years, I have to say that I do miss the community and location very much. The night life and the young crowd that live there are awesome. The views, the vibe and the exciting energy around that place are any person 20-to-30-something's dream environment.
COMPLEX REPAIRS
While living at FCM, the entry gates, codes and doors were consistently broken. Repair was always a slow process (many times taking months on end).
HIGH CEILINGS, HIGH GAS PRICES
In the winter, it often took up to $160.00 in one month to comfortably heat the large, concrete and brick, high-ceiling space the loft offered.
THE LOFT ITSELF
FCM lofts are unique, spacious and HOLLOW. You'll hear the neighbors casually conversing about their day, cooking, fighting, laughing and even having sex. Yes - I am very serious! Because of the quick, cheap, careless renovation of this building, the walls are paper thin and there is little to NOTHING the office can or is willing to do to hold unruly neighobrs accountable. I was miserable for about a year when I was stuck with an extremely ignorant, unbelievably selfish and inconsiderate neighbor. It was a complete NIGHTMARE to say the least. When she left, it was quiet again and that kept me there for a few more years.
THE STAFF
The FCM staff, in my opinion is unprofessional, disengaged, disgrunelled and unconcerned on a good day. The managers are uncomprimising and inflexible. Maybe that has since changed.
THE LEASE CONTRACT
Tricky, tricky, tricky. Make sure you write your 60 day notice even if you have to take a shot in the dark. They will NOT work with you. After living at FCM for FIVE YEARS, I found myself facing an uncertain working situation at my job. My lease was over at on December 31st per my unit agreement, but I wasn't sure whether or not I would be able to extend my lease until early November. I gave the office ADVANCE notice of this situation. In early Novemeber when I realized I would have to move as scheduled, I immediately wrote a letter confirming my move date for the end of December (as my lease already dictated). Since I was technically just under the "60-day notice" policy, FCM unmercifully charged me a whopping $730.00 as punishment (as if this had inconvenienced them in some way).
HORROR FALLS
Bare in mind - the apartment was in PERFECT condition and my lease was NOT broken. It gets better - They signed off on my apartment walk-through paperwork saying that I didn't have any outstanding balance owed to them. I didn't find out they'd put this item on my credit report until it was time for me to apply to another apartment that summer. At that time, they refused to honor the statement on the walk-through paperwork signed by a manager. I've never had a blemmish on my credit related to apartment rental until after this incident.
THE HUGE $500.00 DEPOSIT
NEVER saw it again and I honestly can't tell you why; it certainly was NOT applied to my "last-opportunity-to-suck-a-profit-from-the-loyal-tenan fee they tagged to my credit report.
Beautiful place if you can put up with the despair that surrounds the circumstance.

Pretty accurate. The buildings are amazing the splitting of the units is not. Aderhold properties is a piece of work. While measuring for a projection system in my loft I discovered it was about 300sq ft short of the figure quoted me when I was signing my lease. Their explanation was they included the hallway as part of that space. Really sleazy.
