Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007

I lived in the complex for three years and saw my experience deteriorate every year. The walls are very thin and you need to live on the third floor if you want to sleep. When it was Lincoln Court, the management was better, but since it changed to Gables, the management has been awful. There is a new property manager every couple of months and they are not helpful.
Crime is an issue. There are cameras in the garages, but they do not work. An individual was murdered in the middle of the complex in 2007, which prompted some security changes, but car break-ins persisted. If you live in the south side of the complex, visitors must park on the other side of the apartment complex and handicap parking is few and far between. My A/C unit would always go out in May. During heavy rains, the first floor apartments will be flooded with ants. Lived in two separate 1st floor apartments and this was an issue.
Pool is typically crowded and the equipment in the workout room only works half of the time. On the whole, the apartments look nice, but your experience will be less than desirable.

Fitness equipment was broken for at least 6 months before they FINALLY got the two new machines. Current property manager may speak with you, but she won't do a darn thing about your complaints. See my review one above this one.
Last--CRIME IS A PROBLEM--Last night a girl was abducted, raped and nearly killed by her neighbor!!! Do you really want to live somewhere where criminals live next door???
Ya'll, for your own safety, don't move here!

Just a couple items:
1) Our current property manager has been with the property for over a year and she is always more than happy to speak with residents personally about issues they may be having. As someone who has worked at several communities over the years I need to mention how RARE it is for a property manager to even answer the telephone let alone take service requests etc as our current manager does.
2) Handicap parking is designated by the county/city so this should not be an issue. If you find this is a problem please let us know so that we may contact local authorities.
3) There is nothing to suggest that crime occurs in our community any more frequently than similar communities in the area. We offer several options to our residents including a monitored alarm system for which your apartment has been pre-wired. As always, please contact Dekalb county for up-to-date crime information.
4)Very few residents complain about noise. Depending how light a sleeper you are, we encourage you to consider all your options regarding floor level.
5) Pest control visits the community weekly so, if you have any issues with this, we are happy to help. Living in the South, Spring may bring a few ants but very few residents find this to be a problem and most instances can be eradicated with basic cleaning and regular pest control.
6) Yes the pool can get crowded but isn't that a GOOD thing? I've worked here for a year and have never had anyone tell me they couldn't find a chair.
7) Fitness equipment is in good shape including two brand new treadmills.

Ok, since you work ere and are so eager to defend the place, why don't you address her point about the rape that occurred. Your office very casually called it an "assault" and suggested it was "random". The perpetrator lived in the complex--hardly random. Why don't you tell all the residents the whole truth? Why cover it up?

No cover up - what would you like us to say? The offender passed a criminal background check - you think we should have run a psychological evaluation as well? I'm the sure the Americans with Disabilities Act would LOVE that. Some victims don't want the details of their case told to everyone so a "vague" letter was sent out - everything that happened is public record and we rely on Dekalb County to provide more detailed and factual information to anyone who wants to contact them. This is important ESPECIALLY when a case is still under investigation since details we were told initially may change as more witnesses come forward. Surely you can understand....

very true to the comment above...give the office a break. They are not the eyes of God to see all and be all places. They are probably shook up as well. Think about it...they show apartments all day to people that can potentially do them harm. Do you seriously think they would let just anyone in????
Quit being such jerks and call Dekalb county if you want all the facts...to me it just sounds like your being nosey rather than concerned with your safety. You're nit picking over them using the word 'assualt' so how are they to say anything without everyone jumping down their throat about every word they use???
You want facts? Ask the victim..otherwise it just sounds like gossip to me.

the newsletter that came out from the office stated there was an assault and that it WAS NOT A RANDOM act...seriously, it is not the victims fault that her life has been changed forever, nor is it the fault of gables. the person responsilbe is the suspect, who is in jail, with no hopes of getting out soon. the information is out there, if you are concerned about your safety, you can find it....i did. thats how i have the answers. the only person who can honestly be blamed is the CREAP who did what he did. again, my thoughts and well wishes are with the victim, as her life is forever changed.
