And what is mgt doing'' Nothing. I do not feel safe living here anymore. My lease is up next month, and even with this incident, they will not let us break our lease without a balance.
I was standing out front for a bit today telling potential renters what happened, and they called the police and threatened to have me arrested if I didn't stop.
I don't even care at this point. I am moving out THIS Saturday to a MUCH safer place, even if it means paying two rents at once.
Please ladies, do not move here for your own safety!
Also, do remember that one year ago there was a murder here, and we moved in anyway because we were promised new gates and 24-7 security. We don't have the security and even though we have new gates, they are often broken and people still follow you in! When we've confronted the manager about the gate and security issues, she said "We said we would have 24-7 security; we didn't say for how long." That is a straight con. They lied to us from the get go, and they will lie to you too.
I've reported them to the better business bureau (Hello! It's called false advertising), and I'm seriously considering bring a lawsuit against them. This is how ridiculous they have been.
They are liars, especially the head manager, and they will never do anything about your complaints!
I'm sure management will come on here and say something about not every location is for everyone, but THIS location is ONLY for criminals and for people who expect ABSOLUTELY NO customer service!

I thoroughly agree with those of you who are being rational about this. As a single female this is a reminder to be cautious WHEREVER you choose to live. If you background check everyone and nothing comes back, management cannot be at fault. Moving will not help the situation as this is not a "neighborhood" issue. This person did not break in illegally, he lived here. There is a clause in the lease that specifically says management takes no responsibility for safety - how can they possible make sure that over 600 people are safe all the time? It's simply too much to ask.

The victim can contact the Dekalb Rape Crisis Center or RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) for anonymous support and counseling 24/7. The web address for RAINN is www.rainn.org.
I'm more concerned about the victim than anything, but as a former resident who moved last summer after the homocide, I can attest to management's lack of concern regarding the safety and wellbeing of tenants.
After last year's homocide, Gables corporate allowed all tenants the option to move with 30 days notice.
Maybe this incident hasn't received the same amount of publicity and therefore management isn't concerned. I'd encourage anyone wanting out to contact ---- -------- at Gables corporate and kindly explain the situation and that you'd like the same opportunities others had.
If that doesn't work there's always the local news stations' consumer affairs advocates. Then again, no one can stop you from receiving a crime report for the complex under the open records laws and then submitting an ad to the AJC and the Apartment Finder books stating the facts.

Wow....take a chill pill person above. People are entitled to their opinions without someone being cynical. I have lived here for 3 years and have noticed a considerable decline in the complex and it's residence. I definately feel a lot more unsafe this year than I have to my previous years. My renewal is up and I will not be renewing it due to MY EXPERIENCES at this complex.

I definitely agree with the above response. Gables is not responsible for your safety and with them conducting background checks on every tenant, they are doing more than most management companies. What happened is a very horrible and horrific act and I am praying for the victim, but there is only one person to blame for the attack and that is the sick bastard that committed it. A lawsuit would never pan out in this instance because it is clear that Gables cannot guarantee anyone's safety. The management team is just as shaken up as the residents, but what are they supposed to do? They are not the police. You claim that you are moving to a much safer place, but how do you know it is safe? You don't, it is your perception. I will be moving out at then end of my lease as well, but I am smart enough to know that wherever I go there is a possibility that the same situations will occur.

People just face it, low rents, shady locations around (Club Miami) and low-class people in wife beaters (I don't mean the ------- from Buford Highway) with pit bulls etc. attract others which tend more to comit certain crimes with base motives than they are happening in better communities. Thats my subjective opinion, it got worse the longer I lived there. I lived in the community for 2 years. I witnessed the murder firsthand last year and moved out after my lease was up. I live now in Buckhead, pay more for an even smaller but brand new appartment, at least I don't have those situations anymore and feel 100% safer.
crimes can happen everywhere, it just depends how much risk do you want to manage.
Sad, but for the Atlanta housing market espcecially true, you get only what you pay for...

Also ps- If it's fine with you that a girl got raped by her neighbor, then stay...I'm not trying to scare anyone, just let prospective tenants know what's going on here. It's not okay with me, and I truly believe that if there were full time security, stuff like this wouldn't happen.
I know I'm moving to a safer place because it's a building with a full time security guard. Also, if you read the rest of the review, you would know that I'm mostly upset because of the lies of the management, and that I AM moving this Saturday.

Good Luck then..... your being silly by saying that crime would not happen if there were full time security. So you suggest that there should be security at each person's door every second of the day. Should they just feed them too?????? That is a silly thing to say as security cannot be everywhere at once. Good Luck with yor building that has security. I hope that the gaurd will have bionic vision to see what is going on in each apartment and feel every thought that is going through every persons head. I think that management has taken measures, as much as they can possible do. The office staff has been very understanding and you should give them a break because you are feeling unsettled.

from "mr. anonymous" who posted 4 paragraphs above me...Why does someone who wears wife beaters and has a pitbull considered a criminal in your mind??? Do you even know who commited the crime?? Not someone that you invision...he probably looks similar to you. I hear about alot of caucasion males that rape, molest, sell drugs, murder etc.

THIS PLACE BREEDS CRIME: Okay, I have been reading these reviews and I had to speak up. This is a terrible place to live. I have been living here for 3 years. Why 3 years if it is so bad? Because when I orginally moved in it was Lincoln Court but since Gables took over it has gone down hill -fast. In less than a year there has been a murder and an attemped murder (that I know of, they don't always tell us what's going on). After the first murder they provided a security guard but as soon as the deadline (30 days notice and 30 days to move out with no penalty) they removed the security guard. The lights around the complex are always out and the gate arms are always broken. In a side note about the gate arms - the first murder occurred after an altercation at the gate because the victim would not allow the 2 killers to follow him in -SO -Gables do not tell me that I should be the gatekeeper - I don't want to die. After the brutal rape and attmepted murder the other night they sent out a letter 2 days later at 7pm at night (after office hours) that stated "an assult incident occured". This is disrepectful to the victim and insulting to the rest of us. The people who work here should be ashamed of themselves. I do not know how they sleep at night - they all have blood on their hands. If this wasn't enough I have other complaints. They changed the lock on my mailbox and would not give me a key for 2 weeks - this is a federal crime. They can't keep up with their paperwork and have sent notices saying I owe more money when I have always paid my rent on time and in full (every month for 3 years), they can't keep our checks safe (someone broke in to the rent drop box and stole all the checks), I signed a lease and they couldn't find it, and lastly my toilet overflowed in my one bathroom apartment and they NEVER came to fix it. There are only so many excuses Gables can make.

Does anyone have the facts about this case? The office isn't telling anybody anything. Don't tell us to contact you. Come right out and tell us the truth. Don't hide behind your letter that calls this as "assault". I guess "rape and attempted murder" didn't look too nice did it? Why are you hiding the truth. Tell the residents everything.

give the office a break. They are not the eyes of God to see all and be all places. They are probably shook up as well. Think about it...they show apartments all day to people that can potentially do them harm. Do you seriously think they would let just anyone in????
Quit being such jerks and call Dekalb county if you want all the facts...to me it just sounds like your being nosey rather than concerned with your safety. You're nit picking over them using the word 'assualt' so how are they to say anything without everyone jumping down their throat about every word they use???
You want facts? Ask the victim..otherwise it just sounds like gossip to me.

i live here...got fined because security saw a bag of trash outside my door...where was the security when this young lady needed her? I guess the bag of trash is more important...Nevertheless, the day after the incident happend...Channel 46 action news was outside...they have the story...but for those of us who live here and are not from Atlanta...we know we cant have regular cable like comcast...oh no...we have the bootleg DirecPath (and no...there's no "t" in the direct)...so what station is that for goodness sake!!!

Man, there's a lot of things wrong with this complex, the least being employees that have too much time on their hands. And not deal with resident ish.
One must let every human their faults.
But these aren't faults. I was lied to after the murder. They changed the gates, yes, but little else. This apartment sold people on ""security"" (double quotes used for emphasis}. It's not there, and they are not even apologetic about it. And when I was speaking with "management" (I question efficacy from anybody that's sent to be a CLEANER for an apartment complex) I was given yes's and thank you's. It didn't happen.
Oh and did i mention the ants? they're all over the ------- place. I mean seriously the shower, drawers, LAUNDRY BASKETS. I mean maybe it's my bad for giving my clothing a solid dousing of 100% Canadian maple syrup the night that i put them in the washing machine. But if my clothing doesn't smell like waffles; I'm crippled to get out of bed.
The gist is: they don't monitor the gates, nor follow through with security. The "cable" is beyond TERRIBLE (lied about that too). The location is nice. Pony across the street. Midtown is only 85 away. But it's an amateur show in here by Gables. Apparently, this wasn't the best acquisition and they should just stick with their NEW development on sheridan.
at least i didn't get raped and attempted murdered, or y'know MURDERED.
(Rest in Peace) Seriously, i'm not trying to tread on anyone's memory in anyway.
gables resident for too long

I wish someone would have been there posted a tthe front entrance when I arrived to view apartments and warned me, this is not a great place to live at all. I know it is the rapist fault but Gables does nothing about crime in the apartment complex and things happen all the time there, whether it be this serious or things stolen or property distroyed. Anyone wanting to break a lease lkike this find an attorney they can do it! Those of you who say they can't just watch me and I'll let you know hte process!
