Gables Metropolitan
< | >
I have lived at the Gables for a year-and-a-half, and recently I started having major issues with the noise. I've never been overly impressed with The Gables anyway (inconsiderate tenants and indifferent management, high rent for no return benefit, crappy gym in the old phases, etc.). But I've been DREADING going home every night recently because of the noise above me. The Gables management, in their infinite wisdom, decided to put hardwood floors on the fourth floor of the 9000 building (one of the older phases). Which means that all of us on the third floor get to hear EVERY SINGLE STEP that anyone takes above us. It literally sounds like the people above me are stomping as hard as they can whenever they walk across the floor. I've complained, and I've been assured that the tenants have been warned. Yet nothing is changing, and I'm getting more and more annoyed by the day. And the more that I talk to current and previous tenants, the more I realize that it may not be the tenants above me -- it's the shoddy design of the building. I'm trapped, though, because apparently I'll be charged an ungodly amount of money to break my lease, even though my dissatisfaction is 100% not my fault. I strongly recommend you do NOT move in to the Gables -- trust me -- paying more at Savannah Place or other apartment buildings is worth the extra money.

I live underneath a hardwood floor and what you say is absolutely true. It's not intentional at all, just poor sound insulation. I'm in the 7000 building. At least you don't have a mini wannabe porn star above you. That was fun - I was glad when it was back to the floor noises only.

I lived in the 12000 building in 2005 and could have sworn an elephant lived above me - an elephant who enjoyed watching tv with the bass as deep as possible and did his/her laundry at 2:30 am. I responded the next morning with a few "love taps" with a heavy duty mailing tube underneath their bed when I woke for work at 5:00 am.
