Gables Mill is all about the cost benefit analysis. Like any apartment complex, it has good and bad features, and it's an individual decision as to which ones you value the most.
On the good side-
Location: 2-6 minutes off of 75/285 and inside the perimiter to avoid most traffic morning and evening. Far enough up the ridge to be quiet and comfy.
Convenience: Publix, gas stations, and everything at Cumberland Mall within about 5 mins drive.
Price: There are nicer places to live in the area, but you will pay a few hundred more a month.
In the middle-
Facilities: Nice, but you'll find the same or better most places in the area (again at a higher price).
Parking: Never had a problem, but I've seen the lots 99% full in the morning a few times.
Maintenance: Every complaint I've filed has been fixed. Some took a few calls, others were done before I got home from work. I think it's all about who takes the complaint.
The bad side-
The units are old. Everything is clean, but some of it is just obviously from the seventies.
Pests: I had mice. (Maintenance came, patched the hole, and laid glue traps that day. No more mice.) I've heard stories of other creatures, but never seen em.
Security: The gates are often broken, and stay that way for a few days at a time. I've never felt unsafe, or worried about being robbed. I do hate the morons who break the gates trying to follow people through.
For me, Gables Mill is perfect. I could care less about living in an older unit. I like the low rent and convenience. The staff is usually friendly to me, but they have no real impact on my experience as long as maintenance keeps working.
