The Bad with the Good

The Gables Rock Springs has some good aspects going for it - a nice pool area on both sides, and two decent workout areas. The exterior of the apartments is also very attractive, as well as the grounds.

Unfortunately, this is mostly designed to draw in more renters. While a lot of money is spent on appearances, very little is spent on other crucial aspects of the complex, mainly:

1. Staff -- I can't imagine why a complex such as the Gables Rock Springs would have such a rude staff (the rudest I've ever encountered in a luxury complex).

2. Upkeep -- The central trash compactor used by everyone in the south complex is constantly overflowing. It took over a year for the door handle to be replaced. The gym equipment in the south complex squeaks, rattles, and makes more noise than a 50 yr. old car. Fire alarm panels go off once every 3 months, and take days to reset. This certainly doesn't provide a comforting picture about the effectiveness of the alarm systems in each apartment.

As I said earlier, there are good aspects. It's an attractive complex, and efforts have been made to curb the rash of vehicle break-ins that were occurring 6 months ago. The few times I've called with a simple maintenance item for my own apartment, the response has been next-day and adequate.

The easiest way for the Gables Corporate Management to lower the number of these complaints is to address the staff. I don't expect these people to be rocket scientists (and my lord, they certainly aren't), and I don't expect them to treat me like royalty. I do expect, however, to NOT be treated as a burden and nuisance when I enter the leasing office. From what I've read on this website, it seems that the majority of the current residents are treated similarly.

If we have already put down a deposit, do you have a recommendation as to which part of the complex is better - for example, is the fire alarm problem throught the entire complex or only in the new (2005) part or the older (2003) part? Any info someone has would be helpful. Thanks.
