I am starting as a resident physician at Emory in about one month, and have been shopping for an apartment near both Grady and Emory. Besides location, I wanted a place for young professionals with good amenities, parking, and safety.

GRS definitely has nice units, a bigger than average gym, and is in a good location.

All of the OTHER places that I had visited (7) in the area with similar ratings and price ranges had friendly staff. I don't usually post reviews, but GRS' attitude was so downright UPPITY that I could not resist. They made me feel as if I would only be so lucky to live at GRS. Let me elaborate:

(btw, I apologize- the question marks show up as " ' ")

- When I told them we had discovered them through this website, the GRS person said in a cryptic way, "Oh, I bet you've read some things about us." No elaboration from them, just a look of "yep, we are who we are" on their face.
- When my price range (max around 1200-1300) was on the margin of their cheapest unit, they asked, "Do you still want to see a unit' " Of course, don't you think we've checked the price ranges online' !
- When they were too busy to give us a tour, they gave us the keys, and HAD US DO OUR OWN TOUR! Are you kidding me'! You (GRS) are trying to impress us (the prospective resident) here...
- Most places will let you have a sample lease, some will let you view one on premises, fewer will make apologies for not having one at hand. GRS categorically said NO.
- I asked for a preferred employee discount. They said, "um, we do it for CNN, Turner, I don't know if we do it for Emory *students*..." Nevermind.

I am sure there are those living at GRS who have enjoyed their time. But this initial brush with management leads me to believe those previous posters about the poor attitudes and competencies of management here.

In summary: I will save my money for those who want it.

PS: If you are GRS management, try to realize that 'Emory resident'= doctor = stable income and responsible person.

I have to say as a resident at GRS many times on the weekends when I go to the office the management is really busy. I think when I orignally leased my apartment in early April the individual helping me was quick to determine my price range but explained she was trying to narrow it down b/c of the many floor plans. I agree that at times I have felt rushed when entering the office but I always think the staff attempts to help me. I feel like this web-site never compliments the nice things about this property and the fact of the matter is "GRS" is a nice place to live.

While I agree that there are nice aspects to living at GRS (I did so for two years up until this year), I'm disappointed to see that the attitude and generally terrible demeanor of the staff has NOT changed. I've lived in other complexes, and this type of systemic problem is usually best addressed with a "cleaning of house". I'm afraid this speaks more of Gables corporate than the actual Gables staff. After all, it's the corporate managers who continue to let their property managers & employees to act in this manner.

I could not agree more. The office staff lost our rent check twice during our residency there. They tried to charge us $200 each time for being late on rent, when we paid three or four days before rent was due! UGH!
