I moved to Glenlake in December, and at first I was so happy with them that I ignored the advice of all the reviewers here, and I regret that. Everyone who says they don't care about you after you sign your lease is correct. I've never met people more cruel than the staff in that office my entire life. Allow me to explain.
My roommate/brother in law was hit by a car and lost his left leg. While he was staying at the hospital, we were frantically trying to find a handicap accessible apartment in our price range. Which is by the way very very very hard aparently. We had previously stayed at the Arlington, and tried to transfer to a handicap accessable building there, but they were going to charge us a transfer fee larger than the lease breaking fee, plus they didn't have any units available. They said they did, and then the day we went to check out the unit and were greeted with an enourmous staircase (two weeks before move in) we realized we had to move. So we went apartment hunting. Glenlake had a lovely 3 bedroom handicap access apartment available that we simply couldn't afford. Our roomate couldn't pay his half the rent for awhile, which was understandable, and we were stressed pretty tight ourselves, but the two bedrooms were in our price range. They said they didn't have any units that were technically handicap accessible, but they might have something that they could modify for us. We were desperate, and tired, and stressed, and thats no exscuse for not checking it out earlier, but you don't understand they seemed so NICE. We had to move out of our old apartment, and Anthony was expected home in 2 weeks, and there was literally nothing else. So we moved in. The modifications they needed to make were mostly very simple. Its a narrow squeeze for him to get into the bathroom and the kitchen, but its possible, so we don't complain about that, the biggest thing is the three little steps to the unit, the step from the curve to the sidewalk, and the step right outside our door, but they said they could build ramps for that no problem. They asked when we needed the ramps by, and we told them within two weeks.
A week and a half came and went, so we started visiting the office and asking when they were going to do the ramp, very very nicely, they kept saying they'd get started on it, well the day before he came home, we called seriously pissed off about the fact that there was no ramp. They then said it would take 2 weeks to complete the ramp. I broke down and started crying and begging them to please hurry we didn't know what we were going to do, they were very cold about it and said we should have given them more notice, so I snapped, I informed them that we had only moved in because they said they would do it, and we would move out or they would fix the ramp, or we would have the lawyer who's already working on -------- case give them a call. They backed down and were all smiles, and said they would need that two weeks though, why don't we have a stretcher bring him in, and he can just like stay inside! Well thats what we ended up doing, though I was very upset about it, later they tossed 4 pieces of wood on the ground and called it a ramp. They also told all the other residents that the reason they couldn't finish their work orders was because they had to work on the ramp non stop to get it ready for us. No mention on how they procrastinated, and could have very easily put up the ramp within two weeks and gotten everything done in a timely manner... nope. And the ramp looks horrible, and isn't functional. I'll put pictures up here as soon as I load them up, I'm not kidding, and if you don't believe me my address is 6845 H Glenlake Parkway, please check it out. They also refused to do anything about the step outside our apartment, and the step from the road to the sidewalk because that would interfere with other residents. The handicap spot they gave us is a joke, its smaller than the normal parking spots. I'm so shocked that anyone could be that mean, its really... we're going to move, its just we're in a tough situation right now.

As for other issues, the noise is horrible. I'm sure most of it is just plain your on the bottom floor deal with it noise, but we can hear the neighbors doors creak open softly, we can hear their whispered conversations (the neighbors above us) and the entire apartment shudders when they walk. Now when the neighbors above us actually make normal noise, its like we're being blasted. I can hear their tv, and radio, and regular conversations, its just terrible. No bugs in my unit, thank god, I couldn't deal with that I just couldn't. The floor plan we have is horrible. I'm so sad that for 50 dollars more a month I could have an eat in kitchen, a laundry room, and a balcony and fireplace, but instead I'm stuck in the worst floor plan because it was their only "handicapped" unit. The management... their mean. I can't think of a better way to say it, but they really really really don't care. Its like they got mad at me for demanding what they promised and intentionally gave us the crapiest ramp ever. Petty and mean. The gate broken frequently, and every delivery guy in the city knows the universal gate code because they couldn't add in new residents for months so they gave everyone that one. So whats the point of the gate if everyone in the world can get in' All of that would be so livible if it wasn't for their cruel treatment of my poor brother in law.

I am posting the rest of this the day after I wrote the review....
This morning I recieved a phone call from the property manager. This is the conversation that took place

"Hello ------- this is ----- calling from the Glenlake Apartment Complex'"
"Oh Hi -----, how are you today'"
"I'm great thanks, and you'"
"Good."
Silence....
"So I'm calling about the negative rating you gave our apartment on apartmentratings.com"
"Yes."
"We've decided since you're so misserable here, and you feel you've been so grossly mistreated that we are going to release you from your lease. You have 60 days to vacate the premises, and you'll be responsible for any repairs or expenses from your apartment. You'll also have to pay for the ramp."
"Are you serious'"
"Yes -------, since you seem to feel that we are quote "I've never met people more cruel than the staff in that office my entire life." and that we are "cold and cruel" that you don't have to live here anymore."
"You're kicking me out because I wrote a review'"
"We just don't feel that you living on this property is working out, and since you're so miserable you can move. And I challange you ------- to find another apartment that will treat you better. We went completely out of our way to build that ramp and make that building work for you, try to find another apartment that will do as much to accomodate you as we did. You obviously don't feel that our efforts were enough since we did so much for you and you called us "cruel". It might not be the nicest ramp in the world but-"
"I didn't ask for the nicest ramp in the world, I would just appreciate one that doesen't flip over if you step on it the right way! It's dangerous, and I have been to your office about it every day asking nicely that someone come by and maybe nail it down a bit better and you've done nothing-"
"Well that may be,but I challange you to find an apartment that will-"
"Exscuse me one moment."
.....
"Sorry about that, I'm at work, had to deal with... anyway I-"
"This really isn't up for discussion -------, and I'm not going to argue with you."
"Hey listen you guys really-"
"I'm hanging up now."
"You're being extremely unproffesional."

So this is your mature and proffessional office staff at Glenlake. To all the other residents, I warn you if you write a negative review, hide who you are. In couldn't because of my situation it would really obviously be someone from my apartment writing it. I called back a little bit later and spoke to another office assistant just to ask some questions. By the way, I do have to correct my earlier statement that the office staff is cold and cruel, they're not all cold and cruel, some of them are very nice, they're just powerless to do anthing without the office managers approval, and I find her to be a very cold, cruel and petty person in my personal opinion. I called back to ask some questions about the 60 day thing, mostly just asking if I have to provide a notice, which no I don't because they are asking me to leave, I asked if that goes down on my credit like an eviction or something, they said no, but they will tell the other complexes that they had to ask me to leave. And that I would be responsible for any damages done to the apartment, like the ramp.
I'm completely shocked. I have a right to leave a review, and yes, I should have just said the office manager was unhelpful, but I don't have to be professional, they do, its their job. Make no mistake, I'm thrilled to be out of my lease, I've asked them to let me out of my lease less than a month ago, so yay we get to moved, but I'm angry that I'm being kicked out, and that they can talk about me negatively in the future. People have a right to their opinion. I have a right to post a review. They can be angry about it all they want but you know what they couldn't deny' They never said I was lying, so please anyone who thinks of moving into this apartment be aware that this is what you could be dealing with. The property is really pretty, the ammenities are nice, the UPS has a nice walking trail that we are allowed to use, if you move here and have absolutely no problems with your apartment, or if you don't need anything from the staff, you'll be fine, but just know that this is how they treat you if you need them to do anything, and this is what they are capable of doing to you if you state your opinion.

i have written reviews trying to explain to people what i have gone through here at glenlake and not only how horrible my apartment is but how completely worthless the office staff is, mean, ignorant and naive. my heart goes out to you and your brother.. that is the worst story i have ever heard....i hope really hope other people read your story and stay as far away from here as possible... not only because of the apartments, but because of the staff... just to let you and other people know.. there are things in motion against glenlake and its worhtless office staff and they are not petty things... have you heard of television?.. have you heard of the better busines you know what?.. thank you to the other tenants working together to keep stories like this from happening.... again im sorry for your troubles...

Wow! They are advertising on Craigslist and I am so glad I checked this site before going out there to look at an apartment. I am astounded that they were so tacky to mention your review as the reason for releasing you from your lease. It makes it all the more obvious that any positive reviews are likely posted by office staff. That ramp is pathetic and the parking space is even more pathetic. I hope that you guys have found a unit that works for you. You may even have more luck renting a condo or a house from an individual. You should try checking Craigslist if you have not already found a place. The people in the office and the person who called you are total idiots with not a professional bone in their bodies. So sad.

This is very disheartening. I thank you for your review. In fact I was on my way there this week to inquire about the availabilities for myself and a few friends of mine relocating from Illinois. Someone told me there was a quiet and quaint complex in the area and I decided I would check it out. Wow, this review just cost them potentially 3 leases. This is actually insane that management would treat you all so terribly. I am thankful I checked out the fabric first before even walking into the office. BTW you probably have a case against The Connor Group. You should contact a lawyer because you were grossly mistreated due to discrimination. Is this person, the manager, also a racist? Jeesh. Something must be wrong with them...mentally. Sometimes people with issues like that have deep rooted issues. Anyhow, clearly Glenlake is not customer user friendly. Sorry about your issues with them and consider yourself fortunate to be out of a lease. I consider myself fortunate for being informed. Thanks again! Charlie McCaster
