Bad Place for Professionals

The upside is the location. I agree with the other reviewer who stated that the location is about the only positive thing about this complex. If you work in Midtown, the location is great. However, if you DO work for a living--and especially if you are a professional or paraprofessional--this is not an ideal living environment. If you're a professional, look elsewhere. Don't move here. I've lived here for two months, and haven't even seen so much as one other professional person.

The environment may be okay for undergraduate students--if you don't mind noisy, inconsiderate neighbors. But, it's not suitable for a responsible working person or professional.

The staff is nice, but not up-front about additional costs such as trash and sewer. I wasn't told that I would be charged for these costs, and only found out when I received my first water bill. There are added service fees (that they don't tell you about) on the water bill as well, so you end up paying more than you expect to.

I can't comment on the maintenance crew, as I have not had occasion to have to call them.

In my experience, the courtesy officers don't respond to after-hours calls, so don't let the leasing office fool you into thinking that courtesy officers are available if you have a problem.

If you have any ongoing problem (such as noisy neighbors), go to the property manager, as she's the only one who gives the indication she will do something to correct the problem. I've had an ongoing problem here with a very noisy neighbor here for weeks, and the problem has not yet been corrected. At almost any other complex, this individual would already be evicted.

Internet access is an amenity that the complex claims to offer its residence. However, their server has been down for weeks.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the apartments themselves (at least with my apartment), but everything is very outdated. The laundry rooms are a glaring example of this. Rarely are there ever three or four functioning washers. The dryers often do not work. One washing machine had water standing in it for weeks until it was repaired. They need to buy new washers and dryers. Two of the washers in the laundry room I use are actually beginning to rust.

Another reviewer commented that this is not a place to call home, and I wholeheartedly agree. I feel as though I'm living in a dorm, or in public housing, half the time. A large percentage of the tenants are students. I have nothing against students, but these students tend to be loud, obnoxious, irresponsible, and immature--and mostly just very inconsiderate. Some of them are also very questionable, and not really individuals you want as your neighbors. Overall, just individuals of poor quality. I wouldn't trust any of them, and have no desire to befriend any of them. People do run up and down the halls making noise, and frequently play their music very loud. They must also be amazingly stupid, as they park their cars here in the most moronic fashion I've ever seen--oftentimes deliberately taking up two parking spots.

Overall, my stay at Highland Ridge has been very unsatisfactory.

I definitely won't renew my lease at this complex.
