M Street as I've experienced it

Parking is a hassle. Whenever our neighbors have parties, all of their friends park right outside their doors and stay there until excessively late. From about 10 am to 4 pm, I can get a space outside of my apartment. However, after that, it's hopeless to try, and I just end up walking across half the complex.
The noise isn't so bad. There was one instance of someone revving up a motorcycle right outside our apartment for almost 2 hours at almost midnight. Half the complex went haywire about it, though... and peer pressure made the cyclist leave.
The grounds are nice. We have a dog and walk her three times a day... we always clean up after her, but I don't think that our neighbors do the same. I wish that the management would just pay extra to have the landscapers haul off the puppy poop. Although it's there, it's not so obstructive. There are two lawns that are pretty awful, but the sidewalks and most of the courtyards are really clean.
As far as safety goes, M Street is pretty awesome. There's some crime... mostly people breaking into cars. I can recall 3 or 4 incidents since I moved in six months ago. Basically, if you have something crazy expensive on your car, like $5k rims or something, someone is going to attempt to steal them; however, both mine and my boyfriend's cars are rather nice and haven't been broken into. I mean, this is Atlanta... and a pretty sketch part of town (less than a mile from Bankhead Highway) you can't really move here and expect NO CRIME whatsoever. The staff, however, sends out a community memo every time any sort of crime happens. There are also plenty of outdoor lights to discourage people who might break into apartments. Recently, two staff members spent almost a week re-wiring two of the outdoor lights that were out in front of my apartment... and now all six or seven of them work. We also have a dog. Burglars are wayyyy less likely to break into a residence with a dog. So, if you want to move here and you're worried about crime, just get a dog.
The construction is pretty sturdy. However, my bathroom and closet doors are pretty awful. The bathroom door only shuts completely if you shut it in a certain way, and the closet door NEVER shuts completely AT ALL. There's also a drawer in my bathroom that doesn't work right and one of the doors on the cabinet under the sink doesn't open. I don't think these are major problems, though. I never really bothered to call to have them fixed.
The Maintenance and Staff are both awesome. I called to complain about ants when the weather changed and the pest control guy was there the next morning. The staff plans a lot of awesome community activities--especially in the summertime. Overall, they're awesome.
This is the first apartment that I've rented, but its awesomely cheap and the problems that exist aren't major enough to warrant a move. Neither my boyfriend nor I have to drive our cars on a daily basis anymore. Both of us are able to walk (or bike) to work and I can take Marta to GSU for nothing. We used to live outside the perimeter and after the move, we saved SO MUCH in gas and time. The time that my boyfriend used to need for commuting is free now, and both of us get home right at 5. He's thinking about getting a Masters with all that spare time that he has--but I guess that's an advantage to in-town living in general and not really one to M Street alone.
Overall, I highly recommend M Street for anyone looking to move to this side of town in the future.
