Run Away From Metro Pointe!

I've been living here 7 months. 2 months into it I was looking for a way to break my lease. The first day i moved in my car got stolen. The leasing office not only refused to show any sympathy, they were downright rude about the entire situation. Somehow all of the "security cameras" were broken in the parking deck & the "security guard" was off duty at 4pm. I searched all over for cameras & only found ONE throughout all 7 floors of the deck. Upon this discovery I made a suggestion to the leasing office to please put in more security cameras. They replied with rudeness once again. A week later my friend's truck was broken into. Me & two of my roommates had 3 bikes double locked on the bike rack. They were all stolen. I've seen nice cars get there rims stolen & other cars with tires stolen off of them. There is grafitti all over my floor's hallways. There are LARGELY written obscenities scribbled up & down the halls. At least once a week someone sprays the fire extinguisher all up & down our hall & under resident's doors. The fire alarms DO go off. Alot. Usually at 3 or 4 am. They tend to go on for 30 minutes - 1 hour. 3 of my neighbors sell drugs. One neighbor sells liquor out of his apartment. All of them have tons of people constantly coming in & out. There are blood stains on our hall from where a few guys got in a fight. One of the student workers in the leasing office got mugged in the hallway earlier this week. A girl on my hall had a guy try to push his way into her apartment when she opened the door. As a female myself, I am always nervous & cautious here. I absolutely HATE getting on the elevator alone after dark. They say "student living" but there are plenty of guys here 25 - 30 years old. I can't go anywhere here without hearing "Ay baby..." "Sup girl.." "D*#@ Hunnie.." "Look at dat..." or "You smoke weed''" It's disgusting. So many guys here are scumbags. I've been offered cocaine & marjuana multiple times in the halls & elevator. Numerous times I've had random males knocking on my door. There are constantly people yelling & running through the halls at night. I hear fights break out on my hall all the time. Guys have followed me from the elevator to my room a number of times as well [same for my roommates as well]. The elevator closest to my room is broken at least once a week....which is great when you live on the 9th floor. My main problem here is the safety. And for females, it is a serious problem. I did not sign up to live in the GHETTO.
There are a few good things about metro pointe:
- great mail/packaging system
- washer/dryers in rooms!!
- furnished [hideous & uncomfortable but hey it's there]
- a dishwasher, a microwave, & a oven
- parking [although it is extremely UNSAFE, there are always plenty of spots on one of the 7 floors. i'd highly suggest getting a car alarm & parking above the 3rd floor]
Honestly that's about it as for the positives. The maintenance does come quickly after you place a request. But a number of times they have simply not known what the problem is. But it is definitely helpful that they at least show up promptly. There are very frequent "room checks" here. They check the fire extinguishers randomly, the fire alarms in the room, the "cleanliness" of rooms, the internet, & they are constantly in & out checking to make sure the vacant rooms are locked. Honestly it's at least once a week that we have some form of an employee in our room. I didn't sign up to live in a dorm either. And I'd like some kind of notification before random people walk into my apartment. Prepare for lots of fines too. They fine you for EVERYTHING. The slightest scratch in a electrical socket comes with a fee. A friend had a small pet in my apartment for 20 minutes & i ended up with a 150$ fine. Someone left trash near our door & we were charged with a 200$ fine. They do NOT negotiate either.
today i noticed 3 cars with their back windshields busted out. a girl from my school's car was broken into today. last weekend a group of people were stuck on the elevator & could not get off. my neighbor was on the elevator when it dropped a level because the power turned off.
I realize this is student living & even though noise is an issue here it doesn't bother me. I've definitely been the source of it too. We like to have parties & have a good time [& even that can get you into ALOT of trouble if you aren't careful]. There are a lot fire alarms going off & music on the weekends & people being loud, but that is definitely something that comes with metro pointe. Although, it can get annoying on weekdays when you have to wake up at 7:30 am. I live right by the trains & don't even notice them anymore. It's really not a big deal & only takes about a month to get used to.
In the end, if you care about your safety, your property, & getting overcharged for inadequate living...i would try M-street or the 1016 lofts nearby. You get SO much more for your money. No crappy appliances, lighting, or uncomfortable furniture! Or mattresses that hurt your back! Seriously i could go on for days so PLEASE do yourself a favor & look arond before you sign a lease! After you tour an apartment, go around without an employee & talk to people in the elevators/hallways. Don't Bother "Getting to The Pointe"!

I read my lease as I always do and just like every property I have ever lived in it states that management is not reponsible for personal safety. I have many friends in the Atlanta area who have had their cars broken in to, and it was always because they left something of value in the cars seats. I love living here, but just like anywhere else I have ever lived you have to be aware of your surroundings. I mean really people, no one is safe any where anymore. I watch the news and there are shootings in public schools, people flying airplanes into buildings, ect... We do not live in a safe world anymore. |

Wow....MetroPointe def'ntly sounds like the hood now. I moved out October 2006 & it was well on its way to becoming the hood back then...so I can only imagine how it is just from reading these posts.
Good thing my friend from Spelman moved out.
