My boyfriend lives here and was recently broken into. They took everything that had personal info, like SSN. At the time this happened, the gates were broken. Not only were they broken, they were left open for hours at a time. This is a gated community, which implies security. When my boyfriend complained to the manager that the gates had been left open, she said, "the gates aren't for security." What are they for then'! If not for security, then why is this complex touted as having "gated entry" and security cameras' Please, if you like yourself and your belongings, don't live here. They don't care about you.

Sounds to me like your boyfriend doesn't have a mind of his own if you have to do all the talking for him.

It is unfortunate that circumstances like these happen. Crime does not have a home and can strike anywhere. As far as the gates, we do have a gated community but they are in place for controlled access, meaning to help with any thru traffic that might occur if we weren't gated. We, nor any other property, can promote their gates at a security measure because it is not something that we can gaurantee. The reason for the gate being open on the back entrance of the property is because it was struck by lightening this past summer four times. The gate was completely destroyed by the fourth time and we had to get several electrical companies, gate companies and our corporate office involved to try to find a solution to resolve a continual problem we were faced with and attempt to permanently fix the problem rather than temporarily fix it. We have placed several surge protectors within the area and we hope to have resolved the problem for future storms.
What we do provide our residents is a sense of awareness and take actions that we believe can help deter crime. We do weekly light checks in our breezeways to ensure the lights are working, we work closely with our landscaping company to point out any areas that are overgrown and may need to be cut back and when we do have an occurance of crime that is not an isolated incidence, we inform the community so we can all pull together to keep on eye on anything suspicious or to get any feedback on an occurance we have had.
We certainly do care when someone has been a victim of crime because not only does it effect our area as a whole, but it effects people's homes so we take it very seriously.

That is a serious concern. Thanks for putting it down over here. I know in most complexes there have been car breakins, but in the apartment - that is really something one cant live with. No one would want to lose such vital information. I was really looking forward to move in here - but this certainly raises concerns. I dont know if things have changed since then?
