The location is really the only reason to live here. Noise is really bad- both on the street and within the buildings. I have to listen to loud sex several nights a week from the other side of my bedroom wall. I feel like I am in the same room with them - not a good feeling. I could also use this guy's alarm clock instead of my own, because it wakes me up every morning. I know I must guilty of making noise also, but there is just no way to avoid it with the paper thin walls. It sounds like a herd of elephants when my upstairs neighbor walks around- she is a small girl and I'm sure she isn't stomping around up there.
Parking is a HUGE issue here, especially if you come home later in the evening.
I don't feel unsafe when my dog is with me, but the parking lot is really dark and there are people in the dumpsters all the time. I'm sure they are harmless, but you never know.
Sometimes the lights go out in the hallway of my building and it is pitch black- I literally have to feel my way to my unit. This happened once on a weekend and the girl in the office on Saturday morning was not at all concerned with getting it fixed over the weekend. The office staff can be really rude at times- the manager seems completely indifferent/disinterested/unconcerned with anything. I agree with another poster that maybe she is on drugs- that would explain a lot.
I live in a renovated small one bedroom apartment and the utility bills, especially during the summer, were outrageous. I kept it pretty warm in my apt - over 75 degrees, prob close to 80 - and the bills were around 120-160 during the summer. And, of course, gas goes way up in the winter. Even though the rent is reasonable for the location, keep in mind that your utilities are going to be really high due to the construction of the building.
All of that said, no one can argue that these apartments are in a great location and I enjoyed being able to walk to many places. However, I am moving to a new apartment in a few weeks. I'll probably be paying about $50 more each month, but will feel safer, have adequate, secure parking, lower utility costs and won't have to worry as much about noise.
